Maschine does not show up under Hardware in Preferences

I have a brand new Maschine + Mk3 (standalone) and an M1 Ultra Mac.

It does show up in Machine Controller, at least I can select it. The cable works fine with my Polybrute (brand new from NI). It is plugged in directly to the Mac.

Looking at the Controller I can't really tell if there is any feedback from making the selection.

Ah, found the issue - had to turn on MIDI, sorry don't know exactly which one as I made multiple changes but it appears to be selecting Virtual output.

@Jeremy_NI It is connected directly using the USB cable you included (see original post) USB B in the Maschine and USB A directly into the back of the Mac. Your cable is a USB A to B. Not a USB C, but good to know. (With my warranty I would just send in the Mac if I had a port issue.)

I've not noticed any power issues with anything else, quite the opposite, but good debugging point. OK, connected to a powered hub but no change. Not clear how it behaves when making connection but I would expect it to just work. Using the same cable on the Polybrute works properly.

As an educator I can say that there are some basics that would be good to include to this amazing machine. Specifically a simple orientation, along the line of what you can expect to occur automatically and what steps you need to take manually. All I got was that cover over the display that indicate how to turn it on. Then it was on for debugging how to work it. (Documentation by an educator is also written differently than a tech person writing them.)

That same cover should have a link to a page with these immediate steps. The steps have to assume that the user has never touched this or any similar device. The video above is great but for the changes made which is now misleading such as referring to a file which you don't offer anymore. (It is easier to update a web page than rerecord a video.)

The customer should not need to run around and try to figure out where the instructions are to do, what may easily be, unknown steps. (I also realize this is appears to be a community forum and may not be directly supported by NI, and I appreciate your help. As an example the link you shared is incomplete, should I use Native Access (what is that?) or Manuals?

Both offers help but for the uninitiated it is trial and error, again not a direct line to exact directions. And the use of terms that have not been defined before using them, in my case 4-D encoder, what is that? (I'm walking through Welcome to Maschine+.) Not even included in the glossary. I did find it in the Maschine Walkthrough video.

So I guess I'm $1,200 out for nothing due to this incompetent implementation, or forget connecting it to my computer. How come it worked the last time I turned it on? I guess that is now a moot point. I'm sure you can imagine my disappointment, it is truly a ****** moment! Who would make that kind of decision in today's digital world?!

The System Requirements do NOT specify case insensitivity! It's easy to follow Buy Now which does not warn customers before paying and leave you stranded.

Just so that I'm clear, this device is truly amazing and I have been slapping my back for choosing it. My background is not very music creation oriented, simply listening, and yes doing some mixing decades ago. We simply decided to jump feet first into creating music and I quickly chose the Standalone Maschine+ a few days ago. If there's any way for me to move forward with it I intend to do so.

But you can see why clear instructions with a clear path to them is key for a newbe like me. The NI universe is immense and it is easy to get lost in it without those exact instructions and directions.

Ok, so now everything is working as expected?

Yup. It did not make sense that it would not so I was just trying to figure everything out. All these different names of applications etc are just words with little meaning. Would be nice to see a graphic of their relationships. For example, the video I'm following is mentioning things no longer current best I can tell.

In the beginning he simply calls it the software but does not use the name. Fortunately later on he does.

Hmm, just came back to continue the learning and the Maschine is no longer showing up and since I di don't see exactly what I did I'n yet again fumbling with how to have the two talk to each other (Maschina to Mac). It used to show up under Output & Input on the Mac. In fact the virtual option I had on before is no longer available. Instead I'm trying USMAMA and MsPIPIMI1 and it just can't make the connection.

No doubt this is written up somewhere and I just have not found it…

@sszmidt These videos teach you how to use the Maschine software and the MK3 controller. If you have issues setting the device up, please follow these steps: My Maschine Controller Does Not Start

How is the device connected exactly? There have been numerous reports of issues with USB C power on some high end macs, if you have the chance to try a powered usb hub with the MK3, please do so.

If you still have issues and need some help, please include screenshots or videos so we can get a better idea of what's wrong.

Great machine, looking forward to be able to fully use it. The two USB inputs were great!
