Moving Komplete library to external ssd

Hi,

my question might be stupid and I apologise if it has been already discussed somewhere but I’ve been quite desperate so I’m trying my luck here.

I have a specific iMac Pro for my music studio. I have an extensive NI Komplete library of instruments and samples. Unfortunately my Mac only have 1tb so few days ago I have decided to move my sample library of all Komplete programs and instruments into an external ssd.

When the ssd arrived I wanted to format it in APFS format as I read that would make it work fastest and with least troubles on the Mac. Unfortunately in the disc utility section the only option available it to format the external ssd (Samsung T7) was Mac OS extended. So I thought that might’ve been because I’ve been still using an older Mac OS version (Big Sur). So I decided to update my os version to Sonoma.

After I updated the Mac OS version I tried to format the external disc but again the only option (apart from EXFAT etc.) was the Mac OS extended and no APFS. So I formatted the ssd in Mac OS extended, copied all my Komplete sample library into it and deleted it from the computer.

Only now when I open my DAW and any of my previously recorded sessions none of my Komplete instruments would plays. Now I did all my part on the NI path (repairing and relocating the samples) but still, the instruments won’t work.

I have also noticed that the iCloud Drive has somehow deleted most of my files and folders on my Mac and just keeps them somewhere in the cloud. Which makes me wonder if that could be the culprit to my problem too.

Nonetheless now I am thinking that the only way how to l get my sessions to play properly as before would be to restore my computer back to the way it was before the OS update. But I’m not exactly sure how to do so. I have been using time machine with my other external hard drive so hopefully I should have it all saved. But I read somewhere that to restore the Mac few days back I would have to go the disc utility and completely delete everything I have on it and then somehow restore everything from that external drive? I’m a little worried to do so.

So I was wondering if anyone here could have any idea how I could get my sessions to play normally again, if there is a way to do so without having to restore everything, why has the iCloud Drive deleted so much from my computer and how to reverse that.

I have been trying manually copying everything I could find to the way it was before but nothing helps with my sessions. I’m starting to be desperate as I have many songs I needed to use that now have so many sounds missing. I’d be very grateful for any help. Thank you in advance.

Sincerely

T.

What version of Native Access do you have?

That's the tool you need to use to tell the various instruments where your sound libraries are.

My NA version is 1.14.1.(R156). I did repair (relocate) the library to the new ssd through it too.

In macOS Disk Utility, you need to select View > Show All Devices in order to be able to select GUID-APFS options.

    That's extremely old. The current version is 3.14.0 (4250839 / 1.21.0.0)

You maybe should consider upgrading your NA. It is free.

Sorry for the late reply guys. Been away on holidays. Thanks for the suggestions. I updated my NA to the newest version. My main problem is that in my DAW some of the plug ins (instruments) aren’t playing anymore after I moved my Komplete library to an external SSD. For some reason its mostly instruments that I had open within Komplete Kontrol and Kontakt plug ins inside my DAW. Those instruments don’t seem to show up in Komplete Kontrol or Kontakt now either. They do show up inside Kontakt 7 tho. I don’t understand why it’s happening as I “repaired” and did what it says on NI site one should do when moving his library to an external ssd. When I open my daw it says now that some komplete/kontakt instruments can’t be found. And when I open certain tracks where I used NI instruments hut don’t work now there is a window telling me about this error and giving me options to rectify it. But even when I do so and manualy click on where the library for certain instrument is now it just opens an empty komplete kontrol or kontakt window without that instrument and no sound is coming out. Worse part is that it doesn’t show what instrument was used let alone what patch. Which is extremely bad as I have many projects with many tracks now without sound and it would be impossible for me to do them all again. So I need to find a solution how to get them back. I tried to copy the library back again from the external ssd to its original destination with no luck.

Did you run the relevant version of Kontakt and Komplete Kontrol stand-alone apps after you relocate your libraries with Native Access? You need to let these apps rebuild the database before you run them as plugins.
