Looping in Sample Editing

Hello everyone

Although I have mixed and released several tracks using Maschine, I normally sample my portable grooveboxes and/or use short one-shots that I play and mix together.

I recently switched to Mk3 and tried sampling a loop, cutting it up properly so it would loop well, all from the MK3 screens.

Normally what I would do in software like Sound Forge or Audacity would be to load the raw recording, work with selection and zoom, loop the sample until it sounds good and then cut out what I don't need.

Here in Maschine there are PLAY RANGE (PR), SELECTION RANGE (SR) and LOOP, but I understand that only SR allows TRUNCATE but does not allow looping, while LOOP allows looping if the SAMPLE module is set right, but does not allow TRUNCATE.

Basically (with my current knowledge) in order to be able to work a loop and hear it at the same time in continuous loop I have to use both SR and LOOP, then do TRUNCATE?

I'm looking for a simple way to select the part I need while the playback is looping and then do the TRUNCATE, in the simplest way possible, can anyone help me?

Thanks in advance

G.

Best workflow I got so far: just use Play Range first, when things sound promising I turn on Loop and fit its area manually into Play Range using the knobs. Obviously Sampler module has to be set into ADSR beforehand otherwise no looping while editing the sample (pad button must be kept down to have the sound cycling). Plus, noticed that if FOLLOW Grid button is turn on, screen 2 automatically focus on start point and end point as I turn those knobs up or down (i like that). Once I am happy with start point and end point I apply TRUNCATE.

It there anything better/sleeker than this?

Please share some of your wisdom

You could use the audio engine for looping as well. Just a different approach.

Tried this few hours ago, it works "as intended". At least I can quickly cut a Loop and then switch back to Sample module if I need to chop. Thanks
