Software included with 2nd hand S61 Mk2 Keyboard
Does anybody know what software is currently included for the new owner when transferring a 2nd-hand Mk2 S-Series Keyboard. Is it same the bundle that was with the original sale when it was new? I understand that NI leaves the original software with the old owner and sends the new owner new licence keys but I wonder for which software because obviously the Mk2 is not for sale anymore as new.

First I've heard of that policy. NI as far as I am aware will at best give them the freebie selection but that's it.
My experience of being on both sides of this question is that when you buy a new product you get "free" titles. However, they are not free as you never own them you only licence them until you sell or dispose of the hardware.
If you sell a piece of hardware that came with software originally all "free" licences end and you are no longer legally meant to use the software. The licences are supposed to be released by you for the new owner of the hardware to register.
In practice you can continue to use the software as nobody terminates but you effectively are using unlicensed software. Of course the reality is that nobody is coming after you. That's how it has always been.
It's down to you as the owner to unregister the any "free" software
The issue I guess is that when you sell the hardware are you pricing it based on a market value that supposes the software is included or not? The buyer might expect to get the licences unless you specify no software. Legitimately its no longer of use to you as you theoretically no longer own legal licences.
On the other hand as I say the new owner can get the free bundle on offer to anyone irrespective of owning the original hardware.
There has not been any announcement that I heard of to change the above points. It's not an NI thing its an every manufacturer thing I believe.
The real test is to contact NI directly and ask them what you are allowed to do but it probably amounts to the above.
Hope this helps

I meant to add that I have been the buyer of "Nearly New" NI product from Amazon and had exactly this issue. I called them and the above is what I was told (Minus the freebie select thing as it didn't exist at that time) these days they would point me to the free stuff😊

Hi Ade,
That's interesting because on the NI webpage here (https://support.native-instruments.com/hc/en-us/articles/210288845-Buying-or-Selling-a-Native-Instruments-Product-Second-Hand) it says:
In short, this means that the seller keeps the software that came with the hardware - and the new owner receives it as well.
That is quite a generous policy but seems to contradict your experience.

The problem is that it…depends…
What Mistertoad describes is not correct, since very often (let’s say usually) the politic is to make both users have the included software to keep (and I don’t know what he means with “free”).
And this is also stated in the article you are mentioning.
But it’s also true that I’ve heard of cases in which the buyer has been refused the software after contacting support.
So…is it automatic (as the article implies)? Is it at the discretion of whom you talk to? Does it depend on how lucky you are in talking to this or that support agent?
That is the issue.
My experience is I (or the buyers that bought something from me) always received (and kept) the software. But others didn’t have the same experience, so… difficult to give you an incontestable answer…

Hey Evert
Just read it and you are right. That is one hell of a policy! I wonder if everyone else will follow them. To be honest it the most sensible answer to what has always been a bit of a train wreck.
My experience was admittedly a few years ago now and I don't see a date on this page.
Well, well, well (three holes in the ground full of water) 😄
I'm genuinely amazed!
Funnily enough I am about to sell my S49 Mk II so this makes it a more attractive item I guess 👍️
Anyway good luck with it. I'm glad I spotted your post and took the time to respond 🙂
