[Traktor 4 Pro] Once Again: Tidal, Spotify, anything: WHEN?
Hello everyone, hello dear NI team,
I know this is the 24124th question or post here and yes, I too can't read to it anymore*. Nevertheless, I have to post this entry (question) here again:
Dear NI developers:
Sorry, but let me be very clear now: You can't possibly still be serious about releasing a new versoin of a DJ program without an essential integration in 2024!
Spoiler: No, the current possibilities are no alternative to a โfull assortmentโ (Tidal: 110+ million tracks vs. Beatport: 11+ million tracks, Beatsource 7 million+ tracks)
*and I wouldn't have to if this feature was finally implemented. That's - sorry too, because I don't want to diminish or belittle the development work here - it's just not enough after such a long time.
So, when can we finally(!) expect it?
All the best,
-max
PS: I decided to post this under 'question' b/c I just need an open answer from the Traktor developer team and no 24124th discussion about this missing featureโฆ

For whom is it an essential integration, most DJs actually have their music offline in their collection.
The whole thing is probably not that easy from a licensing perspective, but I still wish everyone who wants streaming music the best of luck in making it work in the future.
And on the subject of Spotify, I can tell you that it will never happen because Spotify doesn't want it and it has nothing to do with the manufacturers of DJ software.

"most DJs actually have their music offline in their collection"
In the past, yes - but now there are an increasing number of DJs relying totally on streaming services, going out and doing gigs. I guess they think it's easy money because they don't need to buy music.
I've seen posts where the "DJ" is even using a streaming playlist on automixโฆ.
For whatever reason, something goes wrong - track doesn't load, no internet connection etc. and then they post on forums blaming the software or the streaming service, saying how it's not professional, it was embarrassing, they lost the job and so on.

I did stream for a while (b-day's/wedding/corporate), but canncelled my subโฆ Did a lot of b-day/corporate i.e. mixed audiences it was useful.
But when you have a following and dancers come for your "type" of musicโฆ
At the moment turning down the "mixed" crowd events, it dawned upon me I was playing stuff I didn't really like. So back to focussing on my vibe and with the dancers who resonate with it. And the greatest part of the hobby, searching for tunes and buying themโฆ0 -
streaming is a fad and will die soon you should curate a collection and keep it off-line. This is how DJs have operated for years. Thereโs not return on investment to integrate with title I would think and not enough music on tidal to satisfy DJ needs, buy your music. Itโs only a buck a song then youโll have it and it will work anywhere.

Above all, subscriptions mean ever-increasing prices and dependence on the provider.
And the later you realize this and wake up, the harder it will be to build a collection because you have neglected it. ๐

Please note: My additional comments on this topic/question were not approved by NI - without an explanation.
I would have hoped for more critical ability by NI. Well, in a certain way, this does explain a lot.-1 -
What additional comments? And what do you mean by "not approved"?

most DJs actually have their music offline in their collection.
Source: Trust me bro!
I know 0 (zero) DJs that play all nighters that do not have streaming services on hand. What you are describing is a thing of the past. It baffles me, that there is still people out there that think like that.Besides, @Heisenberg I asked for a integration naming "Tidal, Spotify, anything", and you pick "Spotify" even thought the question in bold cleary asked for Tidal and useses Spotify just place holder in the headline?
I am not asking for no local alternatives oder a "must", so I dont get your subscription point of view, here. This is a fact: There is no [serious] competitor without some kind of integration of Tidal, SoundCloud+ (or similar). None. Rekordbox, Virtual DJ, Algoriddim's djay Pro and even Serato - they all got it(!).
So I'm afraid you're alone in your opinion, "everyone has their music offline", because the feature is obviously in high demand. It just hasn't gotten around to NI's offices in Berlin yet, which irritates me on many levels, almost as much as DJs lecturing others on how to DJ. dafuqยฒ?
Same, to you @rrrichieXL I aprreciate you sharing your experience about streaming music (so you used a competitor's software, right?) and finding out that you don't like it, BUT this just proves - once again - the feature is sorely missed in Traktor Pro 4, u r g e n t l y . There is a reason Traktor lost market share. This is arguably the biggest one.So I am asking NI once Again:

Actually then as far as I know then that's not true , what happened were that you comment were flagged by the system anti-spam bot, caught in the spam-filter so to speak , and I personally didn't find your comment 'spammy ' enough to not approve when going through the filter just now so I restored your comment (found above here).
If you have had deleted that comment in the spam filter prior then I were not the one doing it.

Not a NI dev, butโฆ
"When can we expect a Tidal integration in Traktor 4?"
Once other priorities have been dealt with. From last years TRAKTOR PRO Ideas breakdown 2023 thread:
Notes from a TRAKTOR Product Manager:
The integration of more streaming services is high on our priority list and weโre aware that Tidal is the most requested one of them. Weโd love to be able to implement this, but at the moment we have to prioritize other features in our backlog over building an integration. Although this isnโt currently planned, we'll continue to monitor requests and will follow up as priorities are updated.

I shittalk NI all the time, I suggest Djay software almost daily on this very forum, I have tons of feature request, I hackelt NI on facebook (haha) โฆ and none of my comments get blocked.
Ain't no one got time to block your feature request.

@majo it's one thing have streaming services "on hand" in cases where you don't have the required track on your hard drive, but another to rely totally on streaming and not have any tracks of your own.
I subscribe to a streaming service, and I can use it via my DJ software or hardware - but I don't rely on it. I can go out and do a gig without ever using it, because I have my own music.

I use Beatport streaming, but then I also typically only do Twitch or YouTube Live streaming.
And my genres are not something I would need Spotify or Tidal for.
I get that people have a preference for streaming service, but have you considered Beatsource? There are a lot of more mainstream tracks and of course it integrates perfectly with Traktor the same way Beatport does.
As for offline. There is offline lockers for plenty of music if not connected.
I think streaming services for music vs. an owned digital collection is something to consider depending on the type of DJing a person does and genres used.
If you play only the same tracks and have specific set playlists that you tour with then a streaming service is probably useless.
If you are a wedding DJ more than likely a hardrive full of music would be good enough. Just get the requested music beforehand or even just plug in a phone for certain parts of the wedding. I did this for a wedding.
For online radio shows or Twitch and YouTube. And the Techno, Tech House, Bass House, type mixes I do. Sometimes I only use 10 or 20 seconds or small loops in a mix.
Many of the tracks I have only quickly previewed. I might go through 200 tracks in a week listening at work with the Beatport mobile app. I have at least 3k in playlists saved over the last year. There is no way I would be able to buy all that. Or even want to. Some tracks I decided are no good. And not all tracks in playlists I make get played in my DJ sets.
Streaming costs me $30 a month. All the music I preview and play would cost me upwards of $600 a month. So in that way streaming is better for me.
Above is a screenshot from my phone. All those and more playlists show up instantly and can be further edited and I never need any thumb drives. Plus as I said I listen to the music at work or doing yardwork etc.

ย but have you considered Beatsource?ย
And then you miss out on the electronic music and a lot of others as well.
Tidal is such a decent "get 'm all" service. 20 EUR for the total package.

I feel like streaming is a fad and is starting to die down. Itโs unreliable and if something happens during a set youโre screwed. Thatโs not to include all the internet issues that could happen. Owning your tracks is not a thing of the past, itโs how djs have operated since the beginning. Itโs what differentiates you from everyone else. Otherwise everyone has the same tracks.
