Working with Expansions in Komplete Kontrol and DAW (Logic)
Hello everyone!
I'm new to the Native Instruments Universe and maybe you can help me out.
I'm currently playing around with different NI Software Instruments, Sounds, Effects and Expansions. Right now I'm trying to figure out a workflow with the Expansions in Komplete Kontrol and my DAW Logic.
I'm looking for a way to simply drag & drop Expansion sounds e.g. Loops into Logic Pro and spend some time looking for a how to in videos, articles and the manual.
Comments from the below Community posts suggest that it is currently not possible to get Expansions sounds directly from Komplete Kontrol into your DAW.
This means that a core feature which is also promoted on the product page is currently not working.
Question: Is Native Instruments aware of this issue? Is a fix underway? Is there a way to submit a Ticket to NI Support?
Thank you for your help!

I'm curious if this has something to do with a proprietary file type? I'm also a Logic user and was wondering the same thing.
I went looking for all the samples in my Maschine Expansions from the Logic browser and was eager to see a sea of countless .wav files…
In my case, I'd love to populate an instance of Drum Machine Designer (DMD) with Maschine Expansion samples or even ones from Battery 4… Hell, or any of the other Komplete 14 CE drum sounds, one shots or samples for that matter.
Yeah, and a drag and drop function would be convenient. To be honest though, I just recently started integrating Logic into my workflow after solely using Maschine for start to finish productions. And I'm by no means a pro. Intermediate Sound Tweaker at best 😏

Sooo…
I was able to locate both Battery 4 content and Maschine Expansion content inside of Logic Pro 11. There does not appear to be a proprietary file type barring access to other applications. It looks like we need to get into the specifics for you particular case.
As I understand it, the Komplete Expansions and the Maschine Expansions are essentially the same content packs, just available in different NI formats (Komplete and Maschine). If this is inaccurate, I may need some clarity, but assuming that it is, you should have folders of samples containing .wav files for those Komplete Expansions, whereas mine are filed and stored as Maschine Expansions.Again, assuming the above is accurate, in Logic Pro 11.0.1, hit the 'F' key to open up the Browser window. Make sure the 'All Files' tab is selected and navigate to where your NI content has been installed/stored.
You should be able to find a 'Shared' folder with folders of all your Komplete Expansions, if these expansions are indeed handled in similar fashion to Maschine Expansions. It can be tricky to find the Shared Folder.
Still in the Logic browser window, on the drive where your NI content is stored, you'll see a 'Users' folder. Inside there is the 'Shared' folder. This is where I found all the drag and droppable .wav files for all my NI content libraries.
Again, I'm not entirely sure that NI handles the Komplete Expansion content the same way it handles the Maschine Expansion content but, this might be a good place to start.0 -
Thank you for taking the time and thank you for your detailed replies.
Actually, I can locate all Expansion content via Logic's file browser - the problem is not finding the content within logic.
The problem is the missing intuitive and easy workflow with thousands of Expansion sounds, loops, one shots. Komplete Kontrol is promised to provide this intuitive and easy workflow but it is not working as promised right now.
Only one aspect is currently working in Komplete Kontrol: pre-listening and then liking/favourite the sounds you like. That helps massively when you want to work with/browse thousands of Sounds from the Expansions (Komplete 14 Collectors Edition). As far as I know I can not make that kind of selection/tagging within the Logic file browser.
Drag&Drop from Komplete Kontrol into the DAW (Logic) does not seem to work. That also means that editing samples in Komplete Kontrol is sort of pointless.
I'm really interested to know if Native Instruments is aware of this issue and if this is being addressed.
Or if I simply don't understand the process for getting Samples from Komplete Kontrol to Logic but I've checked the manual as well as several videos and couldn't find help.
