Interested in Reaktor instruments / Do I need full Reaktor? / scroll wheel support?

hey,

i am interested in trying out some Reaktor ensembles such as Form, Molekular, etc…

i dont want to build synths and work in a modular way, and all Reaktor ensembles for sale atm work in the free player. so for only playing the synth, i dont need the full version of Reaktor, right? Or would there be other restrictions?

and the last thing I want to know before: does Reaktor have scroll wheel support for adjusting parameters in all available ensembles?

help appreciated! thanks :)

For our Reaktor synths or ensembles you only need Reaktor Player. I'm not sure what you mean about the scroll wheel support (i don't think it has). You can try it out anyway before buying any ensemble.

    thanks for the reply!

with scroll wheel support I mean the ability to adjust parameters by hovering over a knob with the cursor and using the scroll wheel.

How would you want scroll wheel to work?

My scroll wheel is notched, so it would jump from one setting to the next… but different ensembles have knobs with different values and different granularities of resolution depending on the builders design… not sure how that would work well at all with a 'one size fits all' scroll wheel support.

A builder can't set up 'correct' parameters for scroll wheel support, because there are so many different scroll wheels, and mouse precision settings, but if it's up to the user, it could be a case of going through an edit process for multiple different knobs even on just one synth, and setting them all up with different settings, then saving the ensemble… that's not good UX.

Seems quite a tricky thing to get right.

What might be nice would be a separate output on the mouse area module for scroll wheel. But again that might not get a whole lot of love because some folk don't use a mouse, and some don't have a mouse wheel (or one that is good for this type of application), so builders are unlikely to focus on that mechanic. Better sticking to the tried and tested :-)

There are other more useful things like mouse modifier keys (+CTRL, +SHIFT etc.) that are also not supported. Those would really expand the possibilities for builders to create more flexible interactive GUIs. Unfortunately Reaktor is currently at maintenance only status, so no new features are likely in the near future.
