So I'm not even attempting to run the maschine softwareor anything I simply want to use it as an midi input device but it's not even being recognized as a midi controller. The cable is fine because when i plug it in it lights up it just doesnt give me the usual screen that it would when i plugged it into my windows that said "open the maschine software or press shift and control to switch to midi". I tried resetting my audio midi set up but it still doesn't find it. I know this might be a fools errand but I really want to try everything before giving up on it.

Maschine controllers aren't MIDI class-compliant (plug and play if you will), they need drivers…. there are none for Sonoma, so.. not even MIDI Mode will work.

If you Mac is intel you can try some tricks floating around the internet, if it's Apple Silicon then theres no chance.

Like many pieces of NI hardware, the lifetime of the Maschine Mk1 is deemed to be over. Which is sad because it's still obviously a very effective piece of midi controller hardware, except it isn't as it can't communicate with anything.

NI should be putting all its hardware out with some kind of life expectancy notice, because really there is no way that a midi controller should become obsolete while midi is still a thing.

Building non-class compliant hardware should be either banned or it should be compulsory to flag it up on all product information.
