Audio Loops Being Linked
Hi everyone, this might be a quick fix? I am having an issue with arranging audio loops (selected from MK3 expansions). When I am arranging my loops and I want to make a change in the next pattern whatever change I make is universal and carry's on to the next pattern. They're all linked for some reason? and I can not figure out how to get the patterns to behave as intended. Any help would be great appreciated. I can't seem to find a solution online.

In your preferences, "Default", uncheck "Link when duplicating Sections" under the "Scene / Section".

Hey Craig, I tired that. Thanks that was a really good tip. They were unchecked already. I went through the process of checking them back to "on", and then "off". Didn't work. Head scratcher.

Really thought that was it. Stumbled across it on Youtube - Blezz Beats. It's one of his videos where he discussed Clips & Arrangement, & I'm sure he discussed why he prefers using the editing like your problem (linked) in Arranger vs the unlinked way. Think there's 3 or 4 vids regarding Clips / Arrangement. If I recall it was the 2nd or 3rd Clip / Arrangement video he did discussing the link / unlinked way. Check the vids, you will find it (think the vid is just over 20 min, or these points were around the 20 min mark in the vid). You will find it, have a look, maybe I'm missing a step or something from what I recalled.

Nice one Craig. I had a look at his channel, loads of great tutorials. The only one I could find relating to arrangement was the
"Scenes and Patterns like a god" video:
About the 15" mark he talks about linked scenes and explains to duplicate the pattern and that will allow you to make variations but im still at square one where any, group, scene or pattern I duplicate are still linked, and if I make any adjustments it affects everything else.
Thanks for the tip! Will keep at it, ******.

I found a workaround on how to make adjustments. When I got into song mode in the arranger all you have to do is insert the patterns as "clips". Then I can make non-linked destructive changes but I can only subtract elements not add elements, but it works out fine because I can just create a new pattern if I want to add something and then insert that as a clip. Song mode is then pretty fast as moving my arrangement along. Happy days! Anyone who stumbles across this tread I hope it helps and saves you three days of head scratching. Thank's Craig for all the help.

No prob! I usually deselect the patterns in Ideas view, even though they are there, so that when I switch to Song view, I can either "insert as clips" or "Create" Clip without having the Pattern situated behind the Clip - this happens when your patterns are highlighted in Ideas view, & you switch to song & insert Clips. Using the deselected Patterns in Ideas, I pre build my structure in Song view just using Clips & Record the same way 1 would do in Ableton's Arrange View moving from left to right, with this I also maintain my Scene Names created in Ideas View, cos if you select the patterns in Song View & convert the entire Scene to Clips, it blanks the Scene name.

I think this deselection of patterns might be the things that's causing your link problem cos I'm sure that was 1 frustrating factor I might've encounted cos I wanted to keep my Ableton Arrange View workflow the same in Maschine - Song Arrange View only, Left to Right. By luck I found I could edit freely without switching back to Ideas, only thing I did in Ideas was set Pattern Length, so when in Song View, I can have Loop Lengths longer than the Pattern Length, which is fine cause it will just loop the shorter Pattern Length for as long as the loop length.

You might want to record a video showing the issue you were having. Here's a basic example:
I create a pattern. The scene is automatically created. I add it to the arrangement. I duplicate the scene; but this leaves the existing pattern in the new scene (I think this is the setting discussed earlier). I duplicate the pattern to create a new, unique pattern and make changes to it. I duplicate the new scene and again duplicate the pattern and make changes. I now have 3 unique scenes and 3 unique patterns.

He's using audio loops though (if that may make a difference).

I questioned if that was the case, but not really sure based on the rest of the thread. I'm not sure what modifications you'd make with an audio loop in each pattern. It's another reason a video of the issue would be very helpful to explain the issue.

Thanks Craig for sharing the video, that was what I was trying to do, to make non-destructive variations, but I was working with audio loops. So what I was doing was making a pattern/scene just for drums, then vox, then melodic elements, all using audio loops and building the sketch in ideas mode. So I was trying to create the intro patterns with maybe 1/2 loops then duplicate the pattern and then trigger another loop with that pattern to add something else. Every time I did that the last pattern would be affected and linked to whatever change I made. I think maybe because I didn't change the title of the duplicated pattern that might of affected it?? I am not sure? But the workaround of converting the patterns to clips and working in arrangement mode was the ideal way to move forward and I have found that to be a really fast way to progress. So as you explained. It worked out pretty well. I just didn't realize you had to convert audio clips to be able to make changes within arrangement mode. But it got sorted so happy days! Thanks so much for all the help! And going over everything with me in detail.

I think maybe because I didn't change the title of the duplicated pattern that might of affected it?? I am not sure?
Hes not just changing the tittle, a duped Pattern is/should be effectively a copy of the first pattern, then changes made to it are only on the copy and not on the original, in other words they are 2 different Patterns.

Yeah, I get that. But what was happening for me when I was duplicating the patterns I couldn't make changes. So I thought maybe duplicating and changing the title might identify to the software they are different patterns, rather than just copying and pasting and then making adjustments. Which doesn't seem to be working for me?
