Guitar Rig 7... did NI nail it?
Hello,
I have been using this forum (mainly GR) for quite a while and their was a lot of activity/concern in the past about GR6, the missing looper, Live view, etc… Out of the blue, Guitar Rig 7 was released and the GR forum went quiet. I don't have insights in how many GR6 users switched to GR7 (via a Komplete bundle, paid upgrade, …) but in my opinion and from the posts on the forum I'm under the impression GR7 appears to be a stable version containing the missing features from GR6 and adding a lot of extra's on top. Problems on the forum are mainly about previous versions and Rig Kontrol 3 😊. Maybe my interpretation is wrong, so I'm wondering what other users think. And if NI nailed it with GR7, how should GR8 look like?
For me personally GR7 combined with Ableton Live is a match made in heaven. I export and drag the exports from the looper to Ableton, can switch between scenes via a MIDI foot controller which also integrated smoothly with GR7, … it just works. 😁
Grtz,
Wouter

I have everything I need under GR7. In my opinion, the sound of the new amps is much better than before. I don't need any new amps. The upgrade from GR6 was worth the price.
If I could get better support for my acoustic guitar and work on the live view....
I certainly don't need a GR8.
Greetings,Gandi

GR7 is ok. I think the main difference now is many have switched over to the Line6 Helix Platform. It’s really pretty instructive for NI in my opinion. They failed to build an integrated hardware/software platform, so Line6 came in and took over almost the entire market. Very similar to what Akai is doing with its MPC and Force platforms. Customers won’t complain forever, especially in this industry. They just jump ship to the products that have the most modernized feature set. NI is really betting the farm on plug-ins because their venture capital overlords probably have delivered an investor plan showing hockey stick revenue growth as they capture us all in an Apple-esque closed eco-system. It won’t work, but they will try anyways because it is their gravy train.

@MorrisEd , you have some valid points there! I have no clue about the numbers of active GR-users and the versions being used, but the identity-change NI went through and the delays on certains product-lines definitely had an impact and made people change their setup. Personally I prefer a plug-in and a hardware controller of my choice, but as you mentioned, switching is easy and NI is playing in a different league now.
