S88 mk2 randomly disconnecting from computer

My S88 mk2 today suddenly starting randomly losing connection to my computer. I reinstalled drivers and the firmware is up to date. I can be playing, everything working fine, stop for a few seconds to type lyrics into a document, go back to the keyboard and it isn't connected to Komplete Kontrol. If I toggle the keyboard off and on it reconnects, but then randomly will disconnect again. Any ideas? I'm on Windows 10 btw.

Is this happening by way of USB dropping?

I have had that happen before. Try these things and see if it helps at all. Do them one at a time so that you'll know what fixed it (if you should get lucky, that is).

Try a different USB cable.
Try a different USB hub.
Try no hub (if you had one).
Try an active hub (if you didn't have one or if it was passive).
Try a different USB port on the computer.
If it is USB-C (I don't think it is, but just mentioning it), then try reversing the downstream end of the USB cable. What I mean by that is to flip over the cable connector at the device end. USB-C does not always behave symmetrically, so just try it. Obviously, due to the connector type, this doesn't apply to USB1, 2, or 3 cables.

If it still happens after all that, then I would try clearing my Windows event logs and then reproduce the problem so that it gets logged; then go through the logs and see if Windows noted anything at the time of the dropped connection. It's just easier to find things if you start with an empty log.

Other questions to ask yourself. Right around the time this misbehavior started happening…

Have you recently installed or updated any software or drivers that have USB devices?
Have you recently installed or updated any PCIe or USB hardware devices?
Have you installed a new (or updated) antivirus or anti malware software?
Are you running multiple different antivirus products?
Have you recently changed your computer's power profile?
Have you recently updated your graphic card driver?
Have you recently changed out your power supply?
Have you recently made any changes to memory?
Have you recently made any BIOS changes?
Have you recently applied updates to Windows?
…or is your Windows possibly out of date?

Okay, that's all I can think of for right now. Let's see what that produces.

I thought of one other thing to try. Unplug all USB devices, then just plug this one device in and see if the problem re-occurs.

Then plug your other devices one at a time and retest. In this way, you might be able to figure out if there's a conflict with another USB device in that system.

Thanks BIF for all the suggestions. It seems to have been the midi port on back of my machine. My next step is to do some testing on that port to see what's going on, but in the meantime switching to another port seems to be working. I'm keeping this string bookmarked though in case I need to try these other suggestions in the future.

Okay, so now I'm going to ask you for some additional information: Can you tell us the make and model of computer this happened on? If you know the answer, what is the CPU model and what is the motherboard? And precisely which port is the bad one, and which port seems to work okay?

Yeah…I'm kind of on a mission to collect information on these USB issues. So if you can help, that would be great. Thanks in advance!
