No MIDI Sending To Ext Hardware - Why Is This Difficult?

Ive tried everything. Never have I ever had this kind of difficulty creating a simple midi connection to an external synth in all the years of using gear. Why does this have to be so difficult? Can anyone tell me what could be going on? Info:

  1. All midi channels (ch. 1) are set correctly on Hydrasyth. (I know my Hydra inside out. There is nothing wrong on that end of things)
  2. I tried multiple ch. settings in multiple places on the Maschine Plus…Focus, etc.
  3. I included screenshots
  4. Im using Mascine Plus as a controller (the only way I use it).
  5. Midi out is going into midi in of hydrasynth

Thanks

Is your Maschine in MIDI mode?

I'm a bit confused by the screenshots. If you're hosting maschine as a VST in ableton then the maschine screenshots should show "host" as an option. If you're using it in standalone, I think you should be using the entry showing "Machine Plus (Maschine Plus)" (though mine reads "Maschine Plus MIDI").

Can you explain how you're setup in terms of using ableton and maschine?

I don't use Ableton. I'm simply using Machine + in controller mode and using Machine software. Not sure where you are getting Ableton in this? Thx the screen shots are the music settings in chanel 1

Yikes! I read the info from the link you sent. Seriously? I have to switch to an entirely different mode to have a single track/group/sound send midi to an external synth ? Forget it if that's the case.

I dont need to be in midi mode when usining usb midi connection when connecting circuit tracks. Why is it different for din midi?

I think I know the issue - Its in controller mode. That would explain why using my usb port on my computer to send midi with Maschine works but sending midi directly out of Mascine doesnt.

Is this a MAschine + thing? It seems pretty simple on maschine MK3. Looking at Youtube tutorials, they connect midi cables and it shows up in settings in midi - without midi mode.

No, MIDI Mode is not required to simply send MIDI Out, otherwise we would not be able to use Maschine to control synths.

It's simpler, you're using the "Virtual MIDI Driver" - That's a virtual 'cable' for the software, only works within the computer and apps even with no controller connected.

To send MIDI Out to external gear either use the "Maschine Plus" driver + DIN MIDI Cable, or connect your synth via USB to your computer and it should show up in the Maschine Pad MIDI Out list to talk to it directly thru it's own driver, you might have to enable it in the preferences.

Ah I see, I stand corrected :) I thought that was what MIDI mode was for

Thanks - that did not make sense that I would have to use midi mode. Unfortunately, the hydra isn't usb midi. So din cable only option.I'll give it a try but I thought I tried everything. Ill let you know how it goes Thx!

No - this did not work. I didn't think it would as I already tried that before asking my question.

Humm… Which one do have you exactly? Both Hydrasynth Desk and Keys state they have USB MIDI on their website product pages.

Desktop - Ya, for some reason, i thought the usb was for updating only.

    1. Im seeing it now show up in midi settings.

    2. That still doesnt solve using it with din only unfortunately becayse…

    3. The USB works but…igetting the dreaded USB ring noise. I dont have that USB noise with other usb devices set up the same way. But even if I shut down Hydra, ring is still there until I disconnect cable. ugh

While researching if the Hydra's have MIDI via USB I found tons of posts about ground loop, so it seems more susceptible to it (?).

When i have this issue the 2 things fix it:

#1 Plug things into separate wall outlets, try to separate the hydra from the computer/speakers outlets.

#2 Make sure to use USB cables with ferrite beads.
