Beat gridding on 2 different computers?

is it possible to grid on 2 different computers and then combine both libraries after. I don’t think you can unless you copy the collection.nml first… is this correct?

You used to be able to do that before TP4, everything got written in the tag, tempo and cues (so grid as well). Now unfortunately grid markers (not always though for some reason) are still written in the tag, BUT if the file was previously analyzed on the second computer so it has grids on the collection, for some reason the program ignores every change you make in the first computer, unless you import the file from a new location. It will re-read all other tag information and any changes you make, but not the markers. I've asked here but no answer so not sure if that's a bug or a limitation of the new system.

You're good to go if you only do it once, prepping some files on a desktop and then importing them on a laptop.

You might have to quickly (with the mouse wheel) correct SOME tempo sections for more demanding tracks on the second computer, because from what I can tell the markers are written in the tag, but the tempo values between them are estimated again when imported on a new database, so you might want to quick check files with many grid markers after importing them.

thanks for your reply. I plan on copying the whole traktor folder including everything over before I start doing any gridding on my non-dj computer and I think everything has already been analyzed once there. I will test it out today, hopefully not many issues.

I generally keep the exact same music files backed up on both computers, including copying modified files from DJ laptop back to my desktop so they are identical

can confirm that you need to move both the music file and collection.nml to the second copy for the beatgrids to be transferred.

Hope there is a way to merge collections or export beatgrids to another collection in the future
