Can I delete everything and start over and reinstall everything that comes with Machine MK3?

    The answer is yes.
What would you need to backup apart from your music files?
Where do you keep them. Ensure the re-install points back to these locations.
If you have the serial for Machine stored in your Native Access then there is not reason why not.

I see what you mean, just have the apps installed to internal, and if you have everything mapped properly to external drive you should be right, as long as your macOS Sonoma recognizes your SSD eveytime it is loaded before you start NI apps.

Make sure nothing is mapped through "Documents" You shouldn't contain your NI files in "Documents".

macOS is a BSD Linux OS which means, long story short, it's easier to fix than say Windows and remove what you dont need to further reclaim space if you are at the brink. That's where using terminal comes in handy.

What is your external SSD formatted as? EXT3 I'm hoping. You'll see this in disk utility.

You should be right if you have EXTERNAL SSD formatted as EXT3 and apps mapped to the external SSD.

I have been re-formatting too many servers lately, I'm glad you asked, I confused the two.
exFAT is what you need for an external SSD which is compatible with both macOS and Windows and the best choice if it's external in this case.

Thank you MrCree. I am reinstalling on an ext SSD currently, today. I have spent several frustrating days spent filling my internal hard drive to the brink before I understood how this might fill up my drive. I hope the external SSD installation does not introduce latency. I very much appreciate your input! Mike

SSD is formatted EXFAT not EXT3. Do I need to start over and reformat and then reinstall content there again because of this formatting?

I am so happy for the moment because of your direction and confirmation! Thank you very much MrCree!! Everything seems to be installing and confirming installation just fine.
