Music app won't open after upgrade from Mountain Lion to Catalina

I was running Traktor Pro 2 on Mountain lion for years. I finally decided to bring my Macbook pro (Mid-2012, Core i7 2.9ghz) up to Catalina and update to Traktor Pro 3.

Everything went well with the upgrade,,sort of. In traktor i can see all of my playlists but I couldn't see iTunes. I went into "File Management" and saw "use Legacy .XML file" So I clicked that then pow! I could see all of my music collection!

I thought all was well until I wanted to add songs to the now,(no longer iTunes) Music app. I tried to open Music and was hit with this message: "Your iTunes library cannot be imported because it was created by a version of iTunes earlier than iTunes 12" and it gives me 3 choices, Quit, Create Library and Choose Library. I've chose everything in my iTunes folder (that wasn't greyed out) and nothing works. The other choice "Create Library" I have no clue how to use and I'm afraid if I create a library I'll lose all of my cue points etc.

So,,,can anybody tell what me the hell happened and how to fix it without losing everything?

It looks like the problem you have more related to the iTunes/Apple Music app rather than Traktor. I'd suggest looking at the Apple forums to see if there's a fix, but really with software that old it's unlikely Apple will care.

You shouldn't lose cue points etc as they're stored in the Traktor collection file so it should be safe to create a new library and import your music. You'll lose any playlists stored in iTunes, but anything that's in Traktor should be safe. Before you do anything though be sure to have an up to date backup of everything so if things go wrong you can restore your working system.

Thank you so much. I did so many thinks wrong while trying to do this after you wrote. Ended up accidentally erasing the hard drive then trying to use my backup to reinstall to start from zero only to find that you can't because they changed the file structer in Catalina from Hfs to APFS. Suffice to say I figured it all out over a 3 hour period of absolute panic. Now I'm back to Mountain Lion. Gonna try the whole thing again because I figured out the problem. iTunes was always asking me to update and I always refused to do it because I read somewhere that the itunes version I had was the last that would work on Traktor(itunes 11.4). All I have to do is update itunes then update the os to Catalina and all should work fine. Let's hope. Thanks again.
