This has been happened a few time recently and I have no idea what causes it to start and stop. Its driving me crazy though!

My Set up:

The issue happens in Traktor 4 and Traktor 3 which I still have installed.
I use a S4 Mk3 with Macbook pro (Apple M1 Pro silicone), OS Ventura 13.5.1.

The issue:

When audio device is set to choose the S4 controller in preferences I have very muted (almost nothing) main output through my external speakers. If I turn all volume controls and the speakers up to 100% I can just hear some distorted noise from the track through the speakers. Moving the jog wheels also creates some clicks and pops when going over cue markers etc. There is also no output at all into the headphones when using cue. All other S4 controls seem to be working as normal.

When choosing my Macbook speakers as the audio device I can hear the correct main output but still no volume when using cue in the headphones.

When it's happened:

1st:
While playing at a party I tried to use a Z1 there with my laptop and Traktor 3 and had the same issues, everything worked like normal when I next used my S4 so didn't think anything of it..

2nd:
About 2 weeks ago the same again, I thought it was the cable so replaced it and everything worked normally when next tested.

Most recently:
Updated to Traktor Pro 4 yesterday and everything was working fine when I tried out a few of the new features. Today I have no main output or cue volume again...

Output routing seems to be set up correctly.
External speakers and headphones have been tested with other devices and they are fine.
Cables checked and fine.

Anyone got any ideas..?

    Sounds like a hardware fault.

If you still have warranty I would contact NI support.

If you are out of warranty they still might be able to fix it, but for a price :( If you tech savvy enough you can also try to find a solution yourself.

    Hello,

have you tested the S4 Interface with another application, maybe just send audio from the browser or whatever through it.

@uwe303 Thanks for your reply, very helpful and it has led me forward in diagnosing things although it's not fully solved yet :)

Following your advice I changed my sound output in Mac System Settings to run through the S4 and played music no problem using a media player on my mac.

I then opened Traktor and it worked as normal for about 2 minutes before cutting out again.

While I was trying to figure out what happened I turned off the controller and noticed that the sound came back for a second when I pushed the power button.

Played a round for a bit and if the controller is powered on and I push the power button in a little bit (not enough to the power off) the music cuts back in with the main output and cue volume working normally.

It keeps happening though so I have a fix to get sound back but not a way to stop it cutting out in the first place.

Any clues what I should do next? I'd guess the controller needs a new power switch..?

Or maybe it's the 15 Volt power supply plug or the power socket, have you tried to clean that with a bit of contact spray or something like that? And +1 to all that's said above by lord carlos.
