I had 2 Traktor X1's that I purchased used and then used for many years. I recently sold them, and the purchaser has come back and asked me to transfer the license as he can't use them? I don't even remember registered these and they are not listed in my account.

Can you not just plug in and use an X1 with Traktor? Is there an activation?

The owner before you probably still has them registered.

I don't even know what traktor version came with the x1 mk1.

If you did not say that these came with a license while selling you don't have to do anything.

Tell him to contact native instruments. They can connect the original owner for him.

But to be clear: he can use them now. But needs to buy a licence on his own.

Hardware registration usually just unlocks a Traktor licence. If you have another Traktor licence they will work without registration.

As long as they work with your computer and operating system. X1 Mk1 isnt‘t supported on modern versions of macOS anymore. @Opa here in the community created a solution for that.

Appreciate the insight, I definitely didn't sell them with a Traktor license.

I don't think the X1 Mk1 came with a Traktor licence, did it? The X1 Mk2 certainly didn't although there was a voucher in the box for something like €50 if I remember correctly.

Some owners just want to have the hardware registered in their NI account. I know I do and I purchased a used Z2 which turned out to be owned by at least two other people before me. NI contacted the registered owner on their files but got no response, hence it's still registered to him and there's nothing I can do about it.
