Documents folder usage

Native Instruments is using my documents folder on my personal OneDrive. How can I move this location? Under native access, I changed all of those locations in settings, but it is still using the documents folder. I don't want it to use the documents folder at all.

You have this slightly backwards.

OneDrive is using your "Documents" folder - which is a "special" defined Windows OS directory that comes with a standard OS install. Not the other way around.

Lots of apps use the Documents folder for all sorts of things - it is an industry standard location.

What you most likely are doing is "allowing" OneDrive to sync/copy your documents folder up to the cloud via this panel:

Which is always a recipe for disaster - as OneDrive has a mind of it's own and will start syncing things just when you do not want them to.

Best course of action here is to clearly separate the Documents folder AND the OneDrive folder so they never clash.

As you can see in my screencap - exactly none of my special folders are syncing ("backing up" to OneDrive. The files I DO want to go to the cloud are sitting in the actual OneDrive folder locally - and it's that folder that gets sent up to the cloud. This way - I control everything - not OneDrive.

Finally - in terms of Native Instruments placing specific files and folders INTO the standard Documents folder - that cannot be stopped or altered and I would strongly suggest you do not mess with this by moving things around - as soon as that starts happening - you will notice things will start breaking.

you would have to copy/paste the files to your chosen location, if straight up moving them isn't an option, and then delete them from the docs folder, but it will always store them in the docs folder. I don't know that you can change this from Native Access. The way o got it to stop using my docs folder was to use an external SSD to house all of my music files. but if it routes it to any drive, the json files and all that will always be stored in the docs folder. you would have to see if you can reroute the data to another folder from onedrive settings, but an external drive is the easiest way to do this. and I believe its because onedrive , iCloud Drive, all those, are misunderstood in their function. they are not offsite storage, but rather use up room ON your hard drive, and act as a hall of doors for your devices to access the stuff all in one place. but they are very much still stored on your hard drive, and pre-destined for the documents folder

So you're saying I am screwed because right now, my music stuff is stored on an external hard drive, and all of the settings in Native Access point to this folder. Still, I see stuff in the docs folder and I don't want it there.
