Can I use a microphone w/ the S4 MK3 without tying up one of the track decks? I'm currently using deck C for the mic input, and it works great, but I'd love to free up the deck if possible. Thx…
No.

9.1. Integrating Microphone The Mixer channels C and D on the S4 allow you to integrate a microphone. On the rear panel on the S4 you can connect a microphone using a 1.8" connector to be inserted into Mixer channel C. On the front panel you can connect a microphone using an XLR connector to be integrated into Mixer channel D. This section introduces you the workflow to integrate a microphone. At first you connect the micro- phone to the S4. Then you enable the microphone pre-amplifier stage for the Mixer channel. Final- ly, you switch the Deck to Live Input to insert the microphone signal. Connecting Microphone To connect a microphone to your S4 system:
Ah. Thanks for that. I have an old S4 MK1, and if I'm not mistaken, on that model, you can control the microphone via a pot on the rear and not tie up a channel. All good thx again!
You can route the input of your mic to Aux in the settings → Input Routing. But you cannot set volumes via your S4 in that case. You have to use Aux control in software then.
Never tried that. Does that work with all S4 models?
To be honest: Didn't try that myself yet with my Mk3. But read about it in another thread here.
But I would expect it works with Mk1 and Mk2 too as mixing is done internally by Traktor with all S4 as far as I know. But as I never had Mk1 oder Mk2 I cannot try it.
I can only say that it works with the S5, as it has an Aux control layer for the encoders. Presumably you are right. I will check next time i connect my S4MK3.
I'm jumping way ahead, but if it's true that you can connect a mic via AUX routing in the settings, I wonder if i can assign the volume control for it physically somewhere on the S4 MK3… meaning via controller mappings. I'm more curious about it than earnest. Most gigs I DO want the volume & EQ for the mic on deck C, but occasionally there's gigs where I need a mic but maybe the use of it is far less important.
I wonder if you can connect a CDJ with timecode on the kontrol S5 Aux input
Looks like there are two inputs. Not sure if the MIC input is stereo, but you can connect at least one it seems:
Aux controls (Aux[HOLD]+Encoder[Left side, Right side]) are for two.
If you route it through decks C and D you'll also have the channel controls.
That picture, tho, is not the front of the S4 MK3, as the front has mic input D (XLR). Looks like thats the correct rear photo.
I was posting front/back of the S5 to elaborate on wether or not @pARty_bOy can connect a CDJ to it.
