Is there a way to toggle the pattern button on and off?

currently it only temporarily stays on while im holding the pattern button down, but I swear I've had it latch on in the past somehow, I couldn't find it in the manual

    AFAIR, while in Pattern mode, top first button (maybe also hold shift).

    This works for many modes similarly.
