Prime Bass Melody crashes Maschine 2
I've seen this asked and not answered, but I'm trying my luck.
When I try to load any Prime Bass Melody instrument into Machine 2, Machine 2 crashes.

I've tried:
- Loading a non-Melody Prime Bass instrument into Maschine 2 (works).
- Playing a Melody Prime Bass instrument in Kontakt 7 (works).
- Loading a Melody Plucked Nylon instrument into Machine 2 (does not crash, does not play audio).
- Playing a Melody Plucked Nylon instrument in Machine 2 (works).
- All the advice in Maschine Crashes.
- All the advice in My NI Software Crashes at Startup (Windows).
- Adding Microsoft Defender exclusions.
- Examining Event Viewer (crash text above).
- Searching for related log files (none found).
Apologies for not hyperlinking Maschine Crashes and My NI Software Crashes at Startup (Windows). "You have to be around for a little while longer before you can post links."
Does loading a Prime Bass Melody instrument into Maschine 2 work for anyone else?

It seems ok here on Windows 11 23H2. Loading the Prime Bass "8th Bass (Melody)" from the Maschine browser and drawing in a bunch of notes I don't get crashes. This is on a clean Windows install after loading K14UCE (which took WAY longer than it needed, but that's a whole other story), and without doing anything special like Defender exclusions etc. I've tried loading K7 as a VST as well and that works without crashing.
Does it crash immediately you load the instrument into Maschine, or when you play a note or adjust settings? Have you tried loading Kontakt as a VST3 first then loading Prime Bass as an instrument? What audio interface do you have?

Thanks for taking the time to try it out and provide your feedback.
I'm using Windows 10 Pro 22H2 (19045.4529) here.
Based on your feedback, I found an ugly work-around.
- [broken] When I double click on "8th Bass (Melody)" in the Maschine browser, I get a dialog titled "Progress" that indicates Loading progress for "Prime Bass". When the progress bar reaches 100%, the dialog disappears and the mouse cursor changes to include a spinner for a couple of seconds. Then the Maschine 2 window disappears (i.e. Machine 2 crashes).
- [workaround] When I add Kontakt 7 as a VST, and then load the 8th Bass (Melody) from within the Kontakt window, it works as expected: I can play the instrument from the Maschine hardware.

- [bonus] Once I have loaded Kontakt as a VST, I can then double click on "8th Bass (Melody)" in the Maschine browser and it works as expected.
- But I have to do that every time I start Maschine 2: it's not a one-time fix, like when you have to click through a Kontakt instrument's tutorial popups at least once before it'll open in Maschine. This is something else.

Mike, I've marked your answer as correct: load Kontakt as a VST.
Initially, I thought it was a hacky workaround.
But actually, as soon as you want more than one Kontakt library in a Maschine 2 project, you're going to want a single Kontakt player with multiple racked instruments, so that you can route different Maschine pads to different instruments in the rack.
So loading Kontakt as a VST is actually the way to go.
Thanks for turning a huge frustration into a great learning opportunity
