Mapping Traktor: Global (Cross-Controller) Modifiers?
Maybe I'm missing something… Say I have two controllers: one with pads and one with knobs. Is it possible to make it so the pads on controller A act as global modifiers (Shift Keys) for the knobs on controller B?
Example:
- Knob 1: Deck A Volume
- Knob 1 + Pad 1: Deck B Volume
(PS — That's a very stupid example; please don't say, "Why not just assign Deck B Volume to Knob 2 instead?" My point is that I'm trying to figure out how to use the Pads on Controller A to affect the controls on Controller B *generally*; not this very specific configuration…)
Thanks! :-D

There is access to four 2bit 'modifiers', values of the Traktor GUI, that are both mappable and accessible (I/O) and usable as modifier conditions for assignments. These are the Remix Deck Page numbers. There is one for each deck, and you can use them (change the values, read the values), even if the deck in question is not set to be a Remix Deck.
So, if you don't use Remix Decks, or you use less than 4, you can have up to 4 cross-mapping modifiers with values between 1 and 4. You can encode two binary values in each one with an effort, to have up to 16 On/Off (or press/release) modifiers this way, enough to fill a 4x4 matrix of buttons with 16 different 'shift' buttons, usable with every mapping you load.

I'm not sure where to look for them, though — possibly because I'm running Traktor Pro S4 1.0.1?

They are included since the advent of Remix Decks (Traktor Pro 2.6.8 forward).

Maybe
Sample Decks
is the S4 equivalent? 🤔0 -
Sample decks don't have page numbers.

@DabeDotCom What is the reason for still using such an ancient version of Traktor? Not sure what operating system you are using but maybe it is an option to switch to a newer version of Traktor Pro.

Have ALL PORTS setting and then map everything inside the same device is one way. This works if your controllers are not sharing the same Channel and CC/Note numbers.

Hang on… GLOBAL modifiers? Are you sure this works across multiple controllers?
Bit of a game changer if this is true??? 🤩

If you mean the page counter then yes, it's a Traktor variable.

I mean having a modifier on one controller acting upon another controller?

Lok up "elephant mapping" if you would like to see how to midi link modifiers. otherwise All Ports setting will do the trick if there are no midi message duplicates.

This one, right?

Yeah, that's the one. Probably the most complex mapping ever made for VCI400.
