How do I get mic-sound through "host" again?

Hi :)

I've been making music on my MK3 for a couple of weeks now and it's been great, but a few days ago a problem arose. I may be wrong, but I think it showed up after I followed NI's advice on how to fine tune Window's audio settings.

The problem is this: I can record audio using my microphone, but when I record, I can only hear my voice via the "input"-channel, not "host" (maybe I should mention that I use NI's Komplete Audio 1 interface).

The strange thing is that if I turn on "monitor" in "sampling"-mode, I can hear sound when I'm in the "host"-channel, BUT I still don't hear any effects added to the microphone.

This is a huge problem, because I need to be able to hear all the effects added to the microphone track, when I'm recording my vocals.

Does anyone have an idea why this is happening? My Windows audio output is the same and my Maschine audio output is the same. And yet, I can't do what I used to do …

if you want to hear the fx while recording, you setup one pad with the audio input set to the microphone, and you add only fx. Then you route that pad to another pad where you sample it. You then of course record the FX on your voice too. I hope you understand what I mean otherwise I can make you some pictures later of the settings if I'm home at my computer.

Uwe is right! Another thing I noticed when I had the same problem after correcting the input settings on the sampler channel, was adding a plugin to the input sound channel initially, bypassed helped me trouble shoot those settings.

The output of the channel itself can be sent to another sound channel prior to recording, but you'll have to add a plugin to the send channel initially or it won't show up on the list of possible outputs.

Yeah, I know what you mean, I've tried that before and it did work, but I'm not sure it still works, but I will check it out later.

But this is really the problem: I'm not getting any sound through my microphone when the input/host-knob on my Komplete Audio 1 interface is turned to host. Doesn't matter if I'm recording or not, doesn't matter if effects are added or not. No sound whatsoever unless I set "monitors" to "on" when in "sample"-mode on the MK3. But I'd rather not do that, because I actually use my speakers when I'm working with the MK3, so I can watch tutorials on YouTube at the same time. And so if I turn on monitors in order to get sound from the microphone in my headphones, I then have to turn down the volume on my speakers every time I want to record, which is annoying, especially because I didn't have to do this a few days ago. Something has changed and I can't figure out what it is.

You can also monitor your microphone through the interface, but then of course the mix with the FX is different, you will prehear more dry signal than it is recorded, just set the input/host knob around the middle, then you don't necessarily need to press monitor but you will also will hear no fx while recording. There is only the way described above to reach what you want, record with FX and pre hear what you record the way you hear it. But I will try that with my maschine, maybe I'm overlooking something, I don't record my mic with maschine.

It's working now. I went back to making a pad with effects and then sending the effects to my mic/sample pad (or maybe it's the other way around?).

Although I still don't understand why I can't just add the effects to the mic/sample-pad to begin with?
