Hello all,

For two weeks I have Komplete Kontrol crashing in my DAW (studio one) and as stand alone. I followed some steps, deleting NI folder in the registry and in the User/apps folder. Now I am faced with the following message when I try to open KK standalone.

"get_user_documents_path() cannot get the documents path!"

I also get the following while KK is scanning:

"Assertion failed! Program: … File: scr/asset.cpp Line: 106 Expression: result==S_OK"

When looking for a solution, I noticed that the latest KK is on version 3.2.1. (currents version is 2.8.1) However in the Native Access app there are no update showing, it says "all your products are up-to-date"

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Robert Glotzbach

You can download the latest 2.9.6 version from here if you need to upgrade -

Do you have the latest Native Access? You should be on 3.11.1 - if you're on the older version 1.x it won't pick up the latest updates. Quite a few people prefer the 2.9.6 version of KK rather than 3.x if they don't have a MK3 keyboard as KK3 removed some features.

Thanks for helping dear @mykejb :-) After updating I unfortunately still get the same message:

"get_user_documents_path() cannot get the documents path!"

"Assertion failed! Program: … File: scr/asset.cpp Line: 106 Expression: result==S_OK"

    Regards, robert

I un-installed Komplete-Kontrol and its drivers…. But still the same problem occurs.

Any suggestions on what to do next?

    Many thanks, robert

I followed some steps, deleting NI folder in the registry and in the User/apps folder.

Quickest fix might be if you have a Windows restore point to revert to from before you started messing with the registry. If you are an experienced Windows user then you will know that making a Restore Point to revert to is the least thing to do prior to meddling with the registry.

Thanks, dear @PoorFellow, that makes sense of course, but my computer is in a constant flux.

Don't have an ideal, state of my computer, so I will need to fix it from here.

    Best regards, robert

Well , I did look it all up but solutions just to try to fix appeared as very much varying in nature and with rather little chance of success , most likely due to the fact that it depends on the program that the code is part of but that part is not really documented.

I have a couple of things that you can try.

One of these is rather simple and consists of starting Windows in fail safe mode and then delete all Windows temp files (%TEMP% and %TMP%) , the idea apparently being that some app can store info in a temp file that can not otherwise be deleted in Windows.

Another suggested fix is to 'update' the Microsoft Visual C++ 20xx Redistributable x86/X64. Problem in trying that is that one do not know what Microsoft Visual C++ 20xx Redistributable it is that needs 'updating' if in fact any ?. And at least on my computer there are plenty of those including more for each year and some even both x86 and x64. Also sometimes when you run an installer it appear as skipping installation if already installed rather than overwrite and frankly then I can not remember how these installer works and it might even depend on the installer itself. on my computer all those from 2012 and forward have a 'Modify' option that offers a 'repair' but again I can't even tell if that is resetting the redistributable enough or if one have to uninstall the redistributable and then install it again. And then on top of it all then one don't know if it will help at all even after all that work.

A third fix suggested were related to graphics drivers where a problem with graphics drivers could also throw such an error but that might be only related to games , I mean what do I know ?
