Maschine 2.18 is out now!
Dear all,
I am pleased to announce that we just released Maschine 2.18 introducing some long anticipated fixes and improvements. For this release our main goal was to establish compatibility with the latest macOS operating system and also address the top ranking issues that have been reported here on the community and our Beta testing platform.
Maschine 2.18 introduces the following changes and improvements:
- ADDED macOS Sonoma compatibility
- IMPROVED Maschine Plus logo now displays correctly when used in controller mode
- IMPROVED graphics handling when using Maschine with high-resolution screens on Windows
- FIXED previously reported CPU spikes or degenerated CPU performance compared to the prior version
- FIXED an issue where the Maschine plugin editor was larger than its content in Studio One
- FIXED an issue where the window size setting of the Maschine VST3 plugin did not persist after closing the plugin window in some hosts
- FIXED an issue where some FX presets were not saved as part of the DAW project when using the plugin
- FIXED an issue where the end of an adjacent MIDI note was not editable when a subsequent note is present*
* There is a known issue that the MIDI note endpoint editing may disappear again during a session after performing specific software interactions. We are currently investigating this issue.
If you are using Maschine+, projects created with 2.18 on desktop should remain compatible with the current version of Maschine running on Maschine+ (2.17.5).
The official Maschine+ update will likely follow in the next couple of weeks. We do not have a set release date yet, but will announce here when we can give a clearer timeline.
We hope that this update will resolve some of the previously known issues you have been reporting.
If you have suggestions on how to improve Maschine in the future, please make sure to check out and participate in our “Ideas” section.
All the best!
Kai

I would say that the fact that M+ update is due for the next weeks is very appreciated (also because that “should” remain compatible isn’t really reassuring ☺️).
For future releases if I can I would suggest to release them together when they are both ready. Same is valid for updates to plugins working in both (desktop and standalone) Maschine versions (Reaktor and the others), to avoid the compatibility issues we had in the past

Cheers. Thanks for your feedback!
Regarding the "should" statement you make a fair point. We tested this during Beta, and confirmed it works. However there is always a degree of uncertainty. We learned over time that even when testing, there are edge cases where people experience problems regardless. But I will consider that for future comms.
Regarding the synchronous releases, also point taken.
We did release in sync for some time in the past and it posed some different problems. We first build the desktop release and then build the Maschine Plus system update off of that. So the desktop application always needs to be ready before we get to the M+ update.
We would have to artificially hold back the desktop release until the M+ update is also ready in order to sync releases. Not every Maschine user owns a Maschine Plus, so we would delay needed bug fixes and improvements on at the disadvantage of all desktop users for the added convenience of Maschine Plus users.
This is a difficult trade off.
In either scenario, some people would be at a disadvantage. We decided to move ahead this way, because the number of desktop users outweighs the number of Maschine Plus users and we had a number of bugs specifically on desktop that were hindering people to work with Maschine as expected. We recognized the urgency to deliver a solution without artificially delaying the release.9 -
Thank you for insights.
Since Maschine is considered a "completed" program (for which the improvements are things like "Maschine Plus logo now displays correctly when used in controller mode" or the use with high resolution screens) and updates come in the order of 5-6 months, I don't think waiting a couple more weeks will cause many issues.
Different thing is if the discussion opened about the future of Maschine and its features will lead to an eventual Maschine 3 and something more "drastic": in that case having so sporadic updates will be more understandable (and I think we are all sadly prepared for that: if fixing some bugs and a logo takes this long, I’m afraid having new features will be something coming when maybe I will not even be doing music anymore 😔)

I hope the upcoming Maschine+ update fixes the Reaktor sidechain issues that crept in during the last significant M+ build?
Looking forward to it!
I personally do not mind that Maschine desktop updates before M+, but please for the love of god always remember to document version compatibility upon every update release. Maschine+ noobs constantly run into version compatibility problems just because they expect everything to "just work" as soon as something updates on any of the products within the Maschine ecosystem.
Cheers

Glad Sonoma support is there, though I can't update to Sonoma due to not everything I use being Sonoma-compatible.
I do hope that at some point in the future, new macOS version compatibility won't take virtually all of the development time for software on Mac - without a bigger team there's barely time to do anything else.

Woah! LUCKY DAYS
I've been waiting for this.
All my maschine hardware is now on the list asa well. Sonoma finally is within reach.
I'm gonna upgrade in a few hours once I finish this project I have going. I would hate for it to bug out when I'm almost done. Can't be too cautious!

Hi Kai,
If i use Maschine as plugin(VST2) then it seems that the vst3 plugins are not available in Maschine anymore.
It was possible before this update and also i need to rescan plugins in maschine each time.
No issue in ableton, but others..

There just needs to be an M+ mode for Native Access that allows M+ users to keep their installed plugins compatible with M+. We can catch up with the latest versions as soon as it won't cause M+ problems. None of the software concerned is anything less than fully mature, so critical fixes should be rare, and delaying updating should be low consequence. Whatever tweak to Massive or Reaktor that makes my desktop patches unusable in M+ is something I can wait on until it doesn't destroy my workflow.

That's actually a great idea!
Would be great if Native Access could "safeguard" Maschine+ users from borking their project interoperability accidentally.. I know I'd enable it on every computer I have hehehe!

It would also allow for future proofing. When there is an inevitable M+2 in future, and/or an Mk4, the old M+ can be locked in place like a standard groove box with NA able to reinstall out of date versions of software and old Expansions on it indefinitely. The rest of the world could move on, and leave M+ compatible with itself forever.

I’m excited with the future M+ update.
Hope for some MIDI LEARN without a computer. 🤨

Hi,
updated few hour before, and man I´m disappointed 😕
there are so much GUI issues! I can´t change the positions of the efx with mouse.
In the mix-view the add a new group +button will still be snap on even the mouse cursor is 2 groups away.
I started the standalone app a few times an the group selection with mouse was just possible by clickin the patternfield not the group.
Just a few things a recognised in 10 mins.

I've also noticed bugs in the interface, impossible to move effects with the mouse in the effect chain.
Windows 103 -
There was another thread about this recently, but when I tried to move FX positions it worked. 🤷♂️
