Integrated audio interfaces with midi controllers vs midi controllers

i spotted a comment on the Maschine forum...

which made me realise something....

in the event a OS update occurs, whether windows or Mac...

the difference between a integrated audio/midi controller would have more likely chance of it becoming an issue, if for instance the OS change affects the audio interface drivers, which begs the question, would the unit as a whole begin to fail??

versus the midi controller... which has no audio driver attached or to take into account??

just a random thought!!

probably less of an issue if both midi controller and integrated audio interface is class compliant

I think they are independent from each other. If you have a class compliant midi controller bundelt with a soundcard that needs drivers you should be able to use the device as just a midi controller. But please someone correct me if I'm wrong.

…and if they are not class compliant, the problem doesn’t exist: as the company could not update the drivers for the audio side of it, they could also not update the drivers for the midi side of it.

The real problem is if they continue wanting to make their devices proprietary

In the end it all comes down to them wanting or not to keep your products alive…

i could be incorrect in my assumption here...

but im of the understanding that class compliant devices are plug & play...

the only exception to this... is the software you are utilising the device with...

but as i've got a XW-DJI that is class compliant.... i can basically hook it up... and it will switch between MacOS use... or Ipad use..without any need for drivers.. hence plug&play,

stranglely enough i noticed something interesting with the audio being diverted away from the ipad... and being fed into the XW-DJI unit to allow for the utilisation of the XW-DJI speakers(i need to retest this) to see if this is the actual case!! so dont quote me *smiles

you play your cards correctly... and dont update your OS/firmware/software.... your installed setup should be okay

Sadly, with the last trend from NI to make updates that could block the use of my plugins, I already stopped updating anything…

I suspect this is due to the way iPad manage audio interfaces: the rule is - the last plugged audio interface takes the lead
