How to make drum sound lengths exactly match midi notes

Hi, I'm using Kontakt 7. I have no problems getting the notes and playback to match (usually) but I have a few Kontakt drum kits from sample packs, and on these I find that any duration of midi note, whether 1/32 or a whole bar, will trigger something like a kick drum for it's entire length. I'd like to be able to clip the kickdrum length right down to a more staccato sound, at exactly one sixteenth. However I can't stop the entire sample playing.

I'm guessing there's a setting I'm not finding? Any insight appreciated, thanks.

    Use the Envelope Generator.

play with Decay and Sustain values until you find the right one for you

However, that might be not 100% precise (if you want an exact 16th, for example) and that is why usually you do such works in your DAW's midi note editor (or "piano roll" on few DAW).

Thanks - the thing is, I am using the piano roll, in Cubase, and I'd like just the kicks to be exactly one-sixteenth but Kontakt plays the entire kick sample full length, which is about four times too long. If I use Groove Agent in Cubase it automatically plays each hit in a drum kit according to the midi note length. Thing is I prefer Kontakt for auditioning new sounds on the fly so I don't want to use Groove Agent. I don't understand why a synth bass, for instance, will respond to midi note length in Kontakt but the drum kits don't seem to. Maybe it's how a few of the kits have been set up by the creators?

Maybe because Kontakt drums are audio samples while all the rest is midi-based...

still, Battery use audio samples too but it's pretty accurate

but personally, i would never ever use Kontakt for drums
