Kontakt 7.7.2 - Double Click to add or replace?
Hello, Double-clicking an instrument used to add an instrument in successive channel order. Now, after the update, the instrument is replaced. I cannot seem to find the setting to change this behavior. Please advise. Thanks.

This is the new intended behavior of Kontakt... BUT, very strong hints being dropped that there will be an option for the old behavior perhaps in version 7.8.

Yes I can confirm this change in behaviour, however if you have more than one instrument in the rack and double click on a new instrument it replaces the last instrument already in the rack - it doesn't touch any previous one - all very confusing behaviour. Changes in behaviour like this make using Kontakt confusing and wastes time trying to find out if it's a bug or 'feature'. After all, N.I encourages putting more than one instrument into the rack rather than multiple racks with single instruments so this change in behaviour leads to confusion.
Please NI, if you are going to change the design of the GUI and functionality of user operations, at least give an option to switch the meaning of them - for example the action of double click and what it does. Or use the widely adopted 'convention' in ICT of different mouse clicks mean eg +/- click means add or remove - as many applications have - just as ctrl click means multiple selection and shift click means a selection range. The point being that people have learnt certain actions to mean certain things from a host of applications that recognise the need for standardisation of what operation to do for each action the user does on keyboard and mouse. When designers redefine the meaning and purpose of mouse and keyboard actions it's counter intuitive and affects productivity.

In Options, Click "Handling" and there are MIDI channel assignment options there, I believe "Assign First Free" will result in the behavior you are looking for.

Hi Vic, Thanks for responding. Unfortunately that did not work. Kontakt 7.7.2 still replaces the loaded instrument instead of adding the new one. I can drag and drop the new instrument in which works just fine (adds instead of replaces).

Hi nightjar! Thanks! For now I can live with drag and drop (they also load correctly from the "recent" menu). I look forward to the old behavior!

Please N.I, put an option to get the old behaviour. Because for users who work for years with multi that's very annoying. Double click instrument in Tab is like a reflex and when we do that we loose all previous loaded instrument settings !! no undo possible. Don't change features like that in the future please...

Is 7..7.3 fixing the double click and replace issue ? thanks

Hi, Ted. Apparently not. Behavior in the standalone and the VST is the same here.

I don't get it. When updates come, you hope things will be easier, more convenient, more intuitive, etc. This new behavior is, in my opinion, a major step backwards.

I'm glad I found this thread, because this has been driving me up the wall and I thought I was going crazy.
It's super frustrating. Why the change? What could have possibly been the justification for this, other than to make things more irksome for users?

More irksome for some users, personally I prefer it, and have always preferred to use drag and drop to add multiple instruments (as it is easier to multi select then drag them all in at once). However I completely agree the best approach would be to make the behaviour an option, it's clear some people wanted it, which was why it was changed, but also clear many people prefer the old behaviour.

I’m glad I found this thread as well. I wasted a couple of days of my life, trying to figure out what the issue was with this. Going from K6 to K7 has been an absolute nightmare… especially opening up previous sessions, and K6. I hope there’s an update option for this coming out, like yesterday.
