Can I delete VST2 files?

Hi, new windows install, new K14 CE install, not interested in backwards compatability with my old music.

I have my NI software on a seperate SSD, I have the "VSTPlugins 64 bit" directory there.

For most products, it installed a ".VST3" in "C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3" and also a ".dll" in the "VSTPlugins64 bit" directory.

For example on the attached pic (KK 2.9.6), Absynth5 has only got the VST (.dll) in the "VSTPlugins64 bit" directory, so that obviously needs to stay there, but most things like "Battery 4" has got both VST (.dll) and VST3 files.

Does the checkbox "Always use Latest Version of NI Plug-ins" mean it will always chose VST3 over VST2 if they both exist, or should I be deleting the VST2 (.dll) files from "VSTPlugins 64 bit" if a VST3 version exists?

Thinking about it, I presume if I load a plugin from my DAW (Reaper) it would be easier if only the VST3 one existed? (havent got round to installing Reaper yet)

You can delete the VST2 versions if you don't need them, or at least rename the folders while you test. I do that with a lot of software that insists on installing VST2 as well as VST3 versions. Absynth is discontinued so using it in new projects might not be the best idea?

Be careful with non-NI software that integrates with Machine or Komplete Kontrol because some products that use NKS only work with VST2 until it's updated to VST3 (Softube for example).

In my opinion,it is better to test it out.

Try unchecking the VST plugins and let VST3 plugins remain checked.
