Trying to map knobs to CC controls is driving me crazy!
I have Maschine and I'm making a rack using blocks, and I'm trying to get the knobs to control the sustain on the Bento Box ADSR and I just can't get it to work. I'm not against reading manuals or watching tutorials, I've done both and I can't find info to help me. So here's what I've done and seen.
Stuff that works normally:
- Loading a Reaktor preset which uses the Maschine cc knobs.
- Loading my rack and using "midi learn" to map the sustain to the velocity of a midi key on the "keyboard" of Maschine.
- Turning a knob on the Maschine and seeing the MIDI indicator turn on.
Stuff that works weird:
- Hooking up my Oxygen 25, using MIDI learn, and wiring up to a CC knob causes the sustain to freak out when I turn the knob.
- Looking at the MIDI window shows that turning one knob appears as multiple CC #'s, which is odd to me.
Stuff that doesn't work:
- Using MIDI learn and touching a cc knob on Maschine.
I've tried reverse engineering a preset and I feel like I've looked at every window, but I cannot figure out how the preset causes the midi knob mapping to work. Even just a hint on what section to search in the manual would be awesome. I've looked at several sections and some things don't even line up with what I'm seeing. I've seen a number of references to "Audio and MIDI Settings..." and I don't have that in Reaktor (v6.5.0).
In a fun twist, I noticed that in presets (where the knobs work) the Maschine knobs DON'T cause the MIDI indicator to light up.
I feel like I'm taking crazy pills, any help, even "RTFM... look for 'widget'" would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,
it´s pretty easy, you click under "automation" on "pages", then you have already some pages with 8 knobs each. Then right click on the first knob, for example, learn, then move the knob on the bento adsr, then it normally jumps to the next knob, if not already learned, that makes it very easy to learn 8 knobs in a series very fast. Then of course you can rename the pages and the knobs.
If you then want to control those knobs with a midi keyboard you use the automation page and learn, but then you can´t record automation, you can only record automation from native devices like maschine or a a49.
P.S. if you have cleared all pages and you make new ones without knobs, you right click and paste one, then you can do it like i described.

I am maybe getting closer, I think perhaps automation is what I'm looking for, but I can't get the "connect" screen on my rack to look like anything in the manual, it always just shows a terse MIDI in and out.

Thanks so much. I was definitely looking in the wrong place. That got me working, though it's not working exactly as you mentioned. I'm curious if maybe I'm overlooking something or doing something wrong.
Here are the differences I ran into:
- I couldn't right click on the knobs in Maschine. I had to expand the view to see both "Automation" and "Pages". Once that was expanded there was a "Learn" button under each knob which I could left click and then it would say "Learning"
- Curiously this method of learning didn't work. I clicked "Learn" in Maschine, fiddled a knob in Reaktor, and then the button would unselect, but it didn't connect the knob in Maschine to the knob in Reaktor.
- What did work was to completely remove all knobs in Maschine, then click "Learn" from pages, NOT from automation. Then when I fiddled with a knob in Reaktor a new knobs would be created in Maschine, and these new knobs in Maschine worked correctly.
I appreciate your help. You're right, it was easy once I knew where to look. Thanks so much.

Hello,
that´s exactly what i have said, use the pages to learn the knobs from the plugin, the other thing with automation is if you then want to use a 3rd party keyboard or host automation to control it - anyway, it works now so have fun
