Kontakt 7 GUI looks blurry on Windows

Hi,

I'm quite sure this has been discussed before, for other NI products, but I couldn't find any answer that actually helps with this issue or with my software. I'm running the latest Kontakt 7 version.

Problem is that Kontakt 7 gui looks blurry, when compared to Kontakt 6 (see screenshot). This happens inside Cubase (in HiDpi mode) but also when running the stand-alone version of Kontakt 7. I'm using a 175% scaling on Windows 10.

It has to be clear that all the other VST plugins I own (including NI products, eg. Kontakt 6) looks fine with all my Windows / Cubase settings, so I'd like to not just receive replies like "try disabling scaling" or similar.

I wish I could *at least* have the gui to look like Kontakt 6.

Any help appreciated.

@anotherbreed Kontakt 7 now scales to the OS DPI scaling of the monitor, but since most of Kontakt's interface is raster graphics not vector, this resamples the images, which can cause blurriness.

Thanks for your reply, Jeremy.

I get it, but shouldn't fonts be vector based? How come all the texts look blurry as well?

I really hope there will be an option to disable scaling to the OS DPI scaling of the monitor in the next update, in order to have the same crispy look Kontakt 6 used to have, until NI decides to update graphics to a proper 2023 standard.

Fonts in Kontakt are old bitmap-based ones, just like in Reaktor. The only place where this is not the case is in the new browser in Kontakt 7, and in the new dropdown menus.

I second that.

I have recently updated to Kontakt 7 and yes - the "old" parts of the interface is very blurry when using Windows' scaling.

Normally this can be remedied by setting High DPI scaling override to Application (right click, Properties) - but this doesn't work for Kontakt 7.

Edit Mode is borderline unusable IMO - as is all interfaces with native graphic elements.

I think I'll stick with Kontakt 6 until this is fixed.

I'm sad to see that the scaling issue with Kontakt 7 still persists on this update. I hope this issue is in the works to be fixed - any feedback would be appriciated. Also, if anybody knows a fix (besides setting scaling to be handled by application - it doesn't work for K7), please speak up.

To be clear:

This is only an issue when Windows scaling is set to above 100%.

This is almost always necessary on 4K displays and smaller 1080p (15" and below) displays.

I quess the relative low number of comments about this, is directly proportional to the number of people with said displays.

To drive the point home, here's two screenshots from my laptop (15" 1080p display / Windows scaling 125%). For K7, the legibility is terrible and the interface real-estate is poor. Check the links as this forum resizes embedded images.

I have the same problem.

Interestingly, sometimes after moving / rescaling the Kontakt 7 GUI, after selecting "Options" in the "File" menu, the text in the Options window becomes as clear and crisp as in the Kontakt 6 GUI, but as soon as I move the mouse into this window, everything becomes blurred again.

So the reason cannot be the fonts but I suspect a bug in Kontakt 7.

Hope this will be fixed soon as the blurry interface ruins the fun when working with Kontakt 7 or even make it unuseable.

Yeah I hope in a fix for this issue with every update, but so far the issue is still there.

Now they made some libraries (eg. Session Guitarist) not working anymore in Kontakt 6 (here's a thread https://community.native-instruments.com/discussion/17039/previous-versions-of-recently-updated-kontakt-libraries-compatibility-with-k6-older-libraries) and thus pushing us to use Kontakt 7.

More reasons to see this problem fixed as soon as possible, it's very annoying and I don't have a 4K screen, just an ultrawide screen (3440 x 1440).
