What Is Going On With NI?

Anyone have any idea what’s going on with Native Instruments? They rebranded their logo a few weeks ago, their Twitter account has been “inactive”. There have been a handful of new instruments and expansions that have come out in the last couple months but nothing I would consider “The Summer Of Sound”. Where is the new hardware? When is Maschine going to get an update?

If they were million-dollar worth, they would answer 😏

Maybe somebody decided to kill this company. That’s one of the possible options/reasons to acquire a company.

Threads such as this https://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=592030 or this https://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=599364 can explain a little more about how the community feels about this. The first thread is 36 pages and counting, and is arguably THE place to discuss NI and many other brands. The threads here hardly scratch the surface of KVR.

Here on the NI forums, there is less freedom to speak freely about brand criticism, but on KVR that isnt a problem. If you dont know what KVR is, its one of the "community centers" of this entire industry, existing since the start of all these brands and hosting 100,000s of users, and to ignore the comments (and the current polls) that exist there is to this brand's peril.

NI has an opportunity to listen and respond proactively, or they can ignore these large threads and wind up in the "pump and dump" dustbin of investor hell when all the dust settles. Im fairly sure every person over the age of 30 knows what I mean here...

I sincerely hope someone at NI will read the first thread you posted. From page 1 to page 36

10 years ago i sold my maschine mk1 because of the lack of update and communication from NI.

back to business with a brand new mk3, first connection to the forum, happy to see that nothing changed :)

things looks to be even worse, but at the end this is the same : when you buy a NI product don't expect any update and don't waste your time asking for anything.

Very sound advice. New users: Buy NI products for what they are and what they do for you today. Anything else is premeditated and self inflicted frustration.lol

How so? I never saw any attempt here to silence criticism here. Admittedly I mainly only pay attention to the Maschien sub-forum, don't know much about what happens in the other ones.

Just for the sake of conversation, what would be considered "listening" ? Going thru the 1st thread there are comments about all sorts of things basically, the conversation is all over the place which is normal with such a broad topic about a company with like 100 products. Personally, I feel like I learn way more about what's frustrating users when the topic is about one specific product.

I know at least one KVR member who was banned from this forum for brand criticism. But my main point is that there are large threads on non-brand forums that should be considered rather than ignored by NI.

Or not. I mean Im less worried all the time as I've learned to "winterize" my studio so that I dont have too much invested in any one brand. Steinberg motivated me to find a new DAW despite investing 20+ years in theirs, and if I was able to overcome that nonsense, I can overcome anything.

This makes sense. It can be a strategy “we sell what we have today, not the future release”.

Oh... Curious about that one person, bans here are extremely rare, are you certain this person's criticism was filled with rage, cursing or anything similar? Banned folks tend to tell half the story. Not that it matters much but just curious.

Same here, ditched Cubase for despising their predatory upgrade policies among other things, used it since 2004. I understand what you're saying and agree, constructive criticism should always be taken into account no matter where it is, at the same time if I became a billionaire tomorrow and just bought NI I am not sure that thread would help me understand the real issues I'd want to fix, I doubt a Lead Product Owner or any similar higher up in the company is gonna read a huge forum thread but it would be nice.

They could use surveys, polls, and even their own betas feature requests to gauge user's desires which seems easier than reading individual comments, yet... they don't. AFAIK they do it only for Traktor (not sure it yields results or not)

They may have been angry, yeah lol.

I support that anger at this point, and Ive also been banned from forums (steinberg, 3x) for venting my very real, very righteous anger about their customer service. If you asked Steinberg about my "half" of the story, they would give you 100% of theirs despite everything I went through with them, and despite the fact that I never swore at them. They banned me because "too combative" after *making me combative* by way of their customer service.

I honestly explored suing Steinberg in a local German court and read about all the rules for paying fees, filing documents, etc. I was going to file against them for breach of contract, but it wound up being too difficult to do from the US and I finally found a new DAW.

I would LOVE to see more real community engagement from NI, and I would love to see engagement leading to a better NI in the future(better products, fixes), but the private equity thing... I just dont know. Im old enough to have seen this play out already 1000 times across other industries, and I'm not super thrilled about it. I dont see this leading to BETTER results.

How is Ableton? I’m drenched in NI stuff (and love them), and I use Logic when it’s time to finalize. Reading all this makes me want to switch to something I can trust. Most people I know producerwise think I’m silly for not switching to Live.

I only remember 1 person getting banned from this place (other than obvious spammers); and he fully deserved it. Anger is never a reason to start treating the customer service people like they're subhuman.

A lot of us are annoyed or even mad at NI. That one guy went straight up karen mode and then had the audacity to act like he didn't understand why he was banned.
