Mainstream music will lose popularity due to the industry grip on it and overkill of the same sound over and over. Underground / Alternative music and sources will gain more ground. Less spotify, more direct exchange of music. Or so I hope.

My wish is that the music industry will make more space for composers to actually write music and not computer code. I can imagine that MPE will make physical modelling synthesis more relevant again. Maybe the era of sampleslibraries is coming to an end?

Well, since it is my birthday tomorrow, I think in the future people will try making music I like, so they will see more smiles on my face, not only when I win this t-shirt.

In the next decade, the music industry is expected to continue its shift towards streaming platforms, empowering independent artists, and embracing technologies like virtual reality and artificial intelligence. Blockchain and cryptocurrencies may revolutionize music distribution and royalties, while sustainability and social impact will gain importance. Live music experiences will remain popular, global music fusion will continue to grow, and personalized music recommendations will become more refined. Social media will continue to play a crucial role in music discovery and fan engagement.

I think the music world, like the rest of society, will increasingly use artificial intelligence.

    Is this a good thing?

Personally, I don't think so because the recent past has shown that man was not able to derive "intelligent" profit from his creations and innovations.

I want proof of this in the lamentable use of social networks…

As a professional musician (graduate of a higher Conservatory), I have seen the erosion of the level of knowledge of musicians in recent years.

Many pseudo artists use software without really understanding what they are doing, without having the slightest technical mastery (instrumental and/or vocal).

It is now possible to compose symphonic music without knowing what are the keys, the ranges of instruments, the orchestration,…!

On the other hand, to end on a positive note, all the innovations (brought in particular by Native Instrument) which will be used by “real” artists, will be for

them appreciable aids and powerful sources of inspiration!

In the next decade, you’re going to see an increase in the capabilities of software. Prices will drop as more competition enters the market, and more people will be making quality recordings at home. Distribution channels will increase and the dependence on labels will fall to zero.

I see that a lot more DJs will not only play songs of others, they will compose their own music because AI will make it easier. Today, it takes a lot of time to learn and tweak the multiples software to sound as good as the best producers but AI will simplify. Since there will be so much new music produced, what will set a DJ-producer apart from others is their musical taste, their understanding of what rocks the dance floor. AI can produce lots of musical variations but the best producers will be able to choose the sounds that will be successful. Good taste and musical knowledge is not easy to replace by a machine.

Lastly, unfortunately, I think that producers who will be very popular on social media (for their appearance or other superficial reasons) will be able to have MORE success with average songs than great producers with great songs.

AI is the future of music production as fewer and fewer people actually learn how to perform on traditional musical instruments or learn music theory. AI is their shortcut.

    Hi there.

Predicting the exact direction of the music world for the next decade is challenging, as the landscape is continually evolving. However, several trends and possibilities are worth considering:

    1. Continued Rise of Streaming: Streaming platforms are expected to dominate the music consumption landscape, with an increase in subscription-based services and personalized recommendations. Artists and listeners will continue to embrace streaming as a primary means of discovering and distributing music.
    2. Influence of Artificial Intelligence: Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning technologies are set to play a significant role in music creation and curation. AI-driven tools can assist artists in composition, production, and even generating personalized playlists. These advancements may lead to exciting new possibilities and collaborations in the music industry.
    3. Evolution of Genres and Hybrid Styles: With the ease of access to music from around the world, genres are likely to continue to blend and evolve. Artists will experiment with fusing various styles, resulting in the emergence of new hybrid genres that defy traditional categorization.
    4. Live Experiences and Virtual Reality: Live performances and immersive experiences will become increasingly important for both artists and audiences. Virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies may enable virtual concerts and interactive experiences, offering new ways to connect with fans and create unique performances.
    5. Sustainability and Social Consciousness: The music industry is expected to place a stronger emphasis on sustainability and social consciousness. Artists, labels, and festivals will strive to reduce their carbon footprint, promote diversity and inclusion, and address social issues through their music and actions.
    6. DIY Empowerment: The democratization of music production and distribution will continue, empowering independent artists and creators. DIY (do-it-yourself) approaches will flourish, with artists having greater control over their careers and direct access to their fanbase through social media and independent platforms.
    7. Collaborations and Cross-Media Integration: Artists from diverse backgrounds and genres will collaborate, leading to innovative and boundary-pushing music. Additionally, the integration of music with other forms of media, such as film, gaming, and visual arts, will create immersive and multidimensional experiences for audiences.

While these trends provide insights into the potential direction of the music world, it's important to remember that artistic expression is inherently unpredictable. The next decade may bring unexpected shifts and innovations that redefine the industry, making it an exciting time for both artists and music enthusiasts.

There will be a push in the direction of AI and automation but that will elevate the value of the human element greatly. Vocalists and live instrument players will become even more treasured, and many will regard the use of further assisted technology as being incompatible with their artistic integrity. The human element will remain at the core..

    1. more seamless availability of the same set of tools/settings/sounds across multiple platforms (as opposed to waza-air (headphones), THR-10 (practice amp), line6 stomp (pedalboard), ni settings (desktop), amp settings (studio) = opportunity for company to own sound platform, if executed well.
    2. less manual management of platform updates (eg updating pedalboard firmware, desktop software versions across multiple macs, controller updates, etc)
    3. better navigation of sounds/sound selection, probably w help from AI, eg instead of using broad filters such as "synth", "dark", etc - you'll be able to say give me a bass sound like the bassline of song x, add some distortion, randomize filter parameters 10%, etc
    4. related to above, enhanced ability to recognize and draw from songs (eg give me a guitar sound like prince purple rain), unless music companies shield their libraries from access by AI
    5. better ability to break down and understand existing music - ai will be able to help you understand the music theory (eg chord changes, harmony, melody lines) behind songs much faster than manual analysis relying on knowledge of music theory, and apply that as the starting point or factor in creating new music
    6. even more acceptance of live playing accompanied by loops/prerecorded samples, etc. will not be seen as cheesy and musicians will find innovative and interesting ways to perform that include computer-based accompaniment
    7. musical shift away from hip hop as the dominant music to something that is more of a melange of different styles (incl hip hop) and new sounds (some of which are old sounds that have become unfamiliar) - see bad bunny, afrobeats, dominic fike, steve lacy, remi wolf, sub urban, fred again
    8. increased need for coordination between music and visual elements, like midi for controlling stage lights, but on steroids, for "spatial computing" aka ar/vr and also for live performance
    9. continued (and maybe increased) popularity of stripped back acoustic performance, as a counterpart to the proliferation of digitized sounds, including ways to perform that feel acoustic but sound different (a la midi guitar, electric fiddle etc)
    10. human involvement is core to music. AI is used as a useful tool, but wholly AI-generated music is received as elevator music. AI will have it's "Milli Vanilli" moment, when a popular artist's music is discovered to be wholly AI-generated, with similar backlash.

where Do I think music world will be in the next decade? Well, for starters I feel like music has evolved musically and production wise greatly. But, lyrically I feel like it’s still starving for uniqueness and creativity like the way hiphop, pop, rock and all genres of music was founded on. I’m an artist/producer and NI is my one and only choice for expressing my music creativity. Hopefully in the decades to come we see a change come but production wise I know NI will always excel and be a prominent contributor to any future music production/live performances. Thanks NI, S.D. Out…

I think we are going to see a lot more music (melodies, etc.) created by AI. I think we are still a ways away from having AI generated lyrics. It will still require the human heart, the human spirit, to assemble the words that will move us.

Routine needs for music will be satisfied by AI. Eg: a rock song in the style of (insert artist name here) for a car commercial.

The creation of art, however, is a uniquely human endeavor, It will evolve and use tools as it has always done.
