Just stopped by to post - I'm an S88 Mk 1 and Maschine Jam user, along with Komplete 14 CE. It seems I'm not the only one disappointed by this late announcement that the NI Mk1 hardware is EOL.

I accept that NI state that they will provide the software to run "ad infinitum" but that does depend on WHEN and most likely not IF, an OS or other update will break it!

I had been eyeing up one of the newer S88 Mk 3s recently but this announcement is giving me serious second thoughts and I may indeed change my mind...

@Matthew_NI Maybe I've missed something but I haven't seen any mention of Controller Editor. Could you at least make sure this remains compatible with future operating systems? That would allow us to use the Mk 1 as a generic midi device inside a DAW more easily

NI cannot prevent some future OS changes from happening - only you can.

Get your MK1 (with KK 2.9.4) set up on a machine that you are not going to constantly update or mess with and you should be able to run fine forever (Theoretically).

    progress is a fickle thing....

some can let go of things that were... and others will put up resistance, do a song and dance

    such is life

You CAN install K7 it will work just fine in KK 2.9.4 for times to come.

The issue with side by side installation is entirely to do with session recall.

Older sessions would not recall with KK3, but with KK2, which is no longer in active development, nor supported. A user would have to manually replace all instances of KK2 with KK3 in all sessions. The advantage to installing KK3 over KK2 is that older sessions immediately open with full adoption for the new software and new features.

We had to choose an approach, and that's why we chose the approach we did.

And what about solution, that KK2 and KK3 would be configurable? One could choose if KK3 is loaded instead of KK2 or not. Would be user configurable. That way one could have KK2 and KK3 side by side.

It would be even good for NI. How do you want to attract users of MK1 to buy MK3? Unless they do not mind to ditch MK1 or use it just as MIDI....

Imagine that someone has S88 MK1 and is temped to buy smaller S61 MK3? Do you think he would buy it, if it would not be possible to use the both at its full capabilities?

No changes to this integration at this time, but as the Kontrol S MK1 is being EOL'd, future versions of Maschine software will be treated as the transition from KK 2.9.4 to KK 3.0, meaning, no longer supported. We would not break existing things, just pause that version in time for those users as we have here.

So, shall I understand it, that current version (or maybe few more on) of Maschine SW is the last, that supports KK Sxx MK1? And since than KK Sxx MK1 will work only in MIDI mode?

Each user will have their own comfort level with the idea that MK1 and KK 2.9.4 will receive no further updates, and until they decide to upgrade or experience a newly introduced issue, will continue to enjoy the existing functionality.

But the problem is that one cannot use (at full capabilities) the both KK Sxx MK1 and KK Sxx MK3, if KK2 and KK3 cannot be installed and run together on one computer....

    That is my understanding.

It will be time for users to evaluate their best way forward to ensure a MK1 and KK 2.9.4 remain in static (non-updateable) environment to continue to get full value.

    @gviio

    I’m confused.

I have an mkI and NI know I do. They have my email. It’s registered with that email. I also have a mkII.

Why is this important news just shared here and not via email? I only found out by accident via a Reddit post.

NI communication with customers is awful.

I can confirm, I have received email from NI that announced this change. It was the day it has been announced on NI web....

Ultimately it's going to be like what I do with Kore and Absynth and other software that won't run natively on my M1 (also my Nord Modular 2 software and Access Virus Ti) - I keep an older Intel iMac (running Mohave) for such purposes. tbh I managed to keep Kore 2 going for years before I bought a MacStudio last year so it had a good innings
