Since my MAC PRO 1,1 from 2006 was showing some sign of weakness I could not fix, I recently bought (100€) a new old stock unit of the exact same version, in order to keep on going with my configuration. I had the opportunity to install my OS hard drive in the new unit but I decided to reinstall a new system to start fresh.
OSX 10.6-> just fine,
ProTools-> just fine,
Waves GOLD-> just fine,
TRAKTOR 3-> just fine untill Service Center announced me it could not connect. And you know why.
I'm a OSX 10.6 user. Why ? Because it works fine.
I bought KONTAKT 2 to replace my Hardware sampler EMU e6400 then upgraded to KONTAKT 3 in 2007.
I'm a ProTools HD 8 owner/user. It was a lot of money and lot of machines. My whole set up is very stable.
Why would I switch to something else, to replace my existing products if everything works fine ?
Arn't we suppose to avoid surconsumerism ?
I thought and expected from NI as a German company to be more ecologically oriented.
Why not keeping SERVICE CENTER available for Legacy products ?
I stopped buying Waves products (I own GOLD plus a few individual Plugs) because they left me and so many others behind. Look at them now.
I stopped upgrading ProTools because they were switching to "rental" or "non full ownership" licences... just like Waves did...
I went back to Hardware (for the sound of course but as well) to avoid the pain of the licenses problems. I own my products. No one will tell me one morning... "sorry mate, you can't use your preamp, EQ, limiter... 'cause you need to upgrade whatever and by the way, you will need to upgrade the rest of your studio as well".
Now, 16 years later, in the middle of an album build with other artists, I'll have to fully switch back to my e6400 just because I made the mistake to enjoy and be dependent of one of NI products ?
NI just dropped me ?
Seriously ?
What do you think ?
