The first thing you have to do is make sure you have to do is configure your Keyboard and install the current HardwareConnection services to make sure your keyboard is configured correctly to the Native Instruments environment and is operating with the current firmware. That's what those documents posted by @PoorFellow are about.
Thanks, I did go through all the trouble shooting guides, I have used the mk2 keys for many years, and the mk3 was working, I think It started with the last update for the mk3
Yes started having this problem, what I discovered was as the PC loads up I can quickly select a standalone app like PluginBuddy to recognise the MK3. But…. if I wait for my PC to fully load something is interfering and I can no longer click the box, it was working fine up to a few days ago, its weird…
I'm having the same exact problem. @PhatMonkey I too noticed I can select the input in standalone, but then it doesn't let me once my computer has run all apps. I can click on each checkbox for Kontrols49MK3 and it does nothing:
I did see on some thread or video that these options when using in stand alone are only needed when using in standalone. strangely enough, a friend who is a mac user, who i was comparing his configurations and is also on a s-series mk3, and he is able to check the boxes off and on. I can confirm that you can do it if you immediately go into any of the stand alone apps, Kontrol or Kontakt. For context i'm on the following:
-Win 11 Pro version 25H2 running latest updates on a intel i9 (128gb DDR5 ram) - Hardware Connection (NI access) application version 2.0.7 (released 9.24.25) -Komplete Kontrol software version 3.5.1 -Daw- Ableton 12 suite version 12.2.6 -Audio interface: Universal Audio Apollo 8 running UAD console version 1.2.7.747 It does seem this did start happening after the firmware update for Windows users and I don't seem to see a way to roll back the firmware driver, unless NI is already aware and working on a patch.
So far I have tried reinstalling Hardware connection from NI access and played around with the configuration settings in ableton live 12.
while Ableton suggests selecting the respective device (in my case Kontrol S49 MK3) under control surface and using Kontrols S49 mk3(port2 ) for the input and the same in output, it still doesn't rcv midi notes. The keybed is lit up, and i'm able to scroll through my libraries with kontrol added as a plugin, yet it is no longer triggering midi notes.
I also went into the midi settings on the mk3 controller and made sure the midi out usb was selected and not midi out dual (unless your controlling a hardware keyboard or some other device) and i tried both in Midi 1.0 & Midi 2.0, but still no luck.
Last, I went into device manager and tried to reinstall the DFU and ODR drivers from the known available drivers listed, but also no luck.
To add to what @PhatMonkey said, it does seem like something is using the midi, which is not allowing it to work. I checked task manager to see if there are any other services or apps running that might inadvertently hijack the midi and not allow for ableton, kontakt, or kontrol to work, but i don't see anything that's a clear indication like a daw or any other service.
NI if this helps any, your background processes are running (NIHardware Service,NiHardwareAccesibilityHelper,NIHardware connection service, NIHostIntegrationAgent and NTKDaemon), but something has definitely changed since this firmware update. Please investigate and help us Win OS users.
I just spent hours trying to troubleshoot this so i'm providing as much detail as possible. Long story short, please fix it ASAP.
the following links are screen recordings i made for kontakt8 and kontrol that show i'm unable to check on anything associated with kontrol mk3:
Thanks for posting in great detail of the problem , this is exactly the problem. I am on Windows 11 also, I also booted up Cubase and it recognises the MK3 but no midi is being sent, this is indeed a head scratcher…. @TheGoyaGod
Admin Jeremy_NI could you please forward this urgent problem to the team please… Thank you…
Just to check then could you then please confirm what is your Mk3 keyboard firmware version ? and what is you HCS version ?
You can verify that the Kontrol Mk3 is connected to the HCS by going to Settings > general > agent version on the device, it should say version x.x.x
For context mine is 2.0.7, it was after this problems began…. Windows 11
I began having this same issue today with my desk top. I have the S49. On my laptop its working. I've been trying to figure it out for hours, any Luck?
Hi Kuan it was suggested to me to try out a previous version of the hardware connection service, it did not work for me for the new firmware 2.0.7 but it might work for you, here is the link https://www.native-instruments.com/en/account/downloads/47ce33b5-f306-4202-987e-f9e7df2b5e34/?name=Hardware%20Connection%20Service
Did rolling back the hardware connectin service solve your issue??
Have you solved your issue yet? I Think I may have found the issue. I noticed was my keyboard was behaving like there was another program hijacking my midi. However in task manager there wasn't any programs I found running in the Background.
I never though to consider that browsers have access to control and reconfigure midi. Somehow NI's midi keyboard is being hijacked by the browser so I went in the my browser and found how to block them from controlling midi.
That solved my issue. Even after unistalled the latest hardware access and reverted to a previous one nothing worked. Since I updated back to the latest 2.0.7 and it still works. But IMO and troubleshooting it was of all things the internet browsers. Hope this info helps someone who's experience this I've been trying to figure it out for hours.
Ok Kuan , give us the details on how you blocked your browser from controlling midi, please.
meanwhile support suggested I try another computer, I installed native access, the hardware service, kk, kontact 8, and an instrument on a windows 11 laptop and it did work, I was able to check the boxes for the s61 mk3, and play midi into the instrument. there was a problem with the instument not being loaded on the keyboard screen, stuck in midi mode but it did play i am currently on widows 10 with a 1 year extension and there was an update at that time. and I still have my s61 mk2 that i plugged in on this machine and it works with no problem. I will get back to support and see what they say
