Cant Install Kontakt 8

Hi Guys. When I try to install Kontakt 8 I get the message from Windows

"smart ap control has blocked this ap"

I don't know how to fix this.

Any ideas apart from turning off smart ap control.

I also downloaded the K8 installer on it's own.

I ran it as admin and it gave me the attached message.

Apparently you do know the most logical step of how to maybe fix this : "turning off smart ap control"

So why you are not just doing that I can not understand , 'smart app control' is a Windows feature blocking installation , how do you expect anyone to 'fix' a 'Windows security feature' where the obvious thing to do would be turning off the feature ?

Personally I would try my best to clean all traces from all past failed installation attempts + turn off the smart app control , then I would try installing Kontakt 8 by running the the Kontakt 8 stand alone installer from the Account downloads page as an admin.

Sure , that is why you would want to think and be careful that you have not downloaded something bad before that you are turning off the smart app control. You would e.g. make sure that you have downloaded the app from a site that you trust and you would also want to scan for virus before running the installer. Anyway what you are asking for is not really N.I. advice , but general advice about how to use Windows. Both this is beyond the scope of the help that we are trying to offer here but also there is no substitute for you being careful and think yourself before acting. Also I can not take the responsibility of whatever actions that you choose to do on your computer in general. Smart app control is just that, a 'smart app' control , only problem is that it's not always smart enough.

Again , before installing anything N.I. then be sure that your download is directly from N.I. and make sure that it is free from virus (that is simple and general advice) and never install anything from a site that you do not trust.

If your file is from a site that you trust and you think it risk free to install the file then you can clean all traces from all past failed installation attempts + turn off the smart app control , reboot , then try installing Kontakt 8 by running the the Kontakt 8 stand alone installer from the Account downloads page as an admin , make sure that the app works , reboot , and then turn on smart app control again.

"Smart App Control" (ideally) should be off.

It is an overblown MS security measure that does way more harm than good - and directly leads to issues like you are seeing now.

This option would never be enabled in testing/Q&A at NI - and most likely not at any other vendor either.

You should be allowed to install what you need without been told you cannot - especially for something like Kontakt.

But like PoorFellow notes - be sure you are using a legit installer direct from NI.
