Do I lose access to Traktor pro when selling unit that came bundled w software

Im confused on the license process. I recently sold a S2 MK3 that was bundled with Traktor Pro 3 I believe. Im trying transfer the hardware SN over to new buyer so he can get Traktor pro as well. Do I then lose access to my install of Traktor pro in wehich i now have Pro 4? I also at same time bought a used S3 however the serial number is registered already and I cant contact originasl owner as was bought on line from a shop that doesnt have that info. The S3 shoud of also been bundled with saoftware. Support has been not answering my questions and suggesting I have to buy a crossgrade or upgrade license or something. I have two tickets open. ONe for the S2mk3 transfer and one for my new S3. I submitted proof of purchase as well as pictures of unit for them on Monday. No answer back to that ticket. Can anyone help?

Nope, you'll keep the software and the purchaser gets the software that came with the unit.

That means that you keep the TP3 software so your upgrade to TP4 is still valid. The purchaser should receive a licence for TP3 (or possibly TP4) depending on what came with the original unit.

Then why was Support saying that I need a qualifying unit because when i transfer the serial numbers I no longer have a product that qualifies, this is before them acknowledging I have an S3 also I ned to have serial number added to my account. They made sound like I have to buy thew software again.

Not sure why they would say that, so this probably needs an official reply. @Jeremy_NI can probably help but it may be Monday before he's around.

Was that v4 product an “upgrade” from your v3 product?

You did not specify how you arrived at v4.

According to the NI blurb about hardware transfer the main reason for the original purchaser keeping the licence that came with the unit originally is to make sure any upgrade paths are still valid. That's why it seems odd that support are saying the OP needs to buy new software, unless there's a misunderstanding somewhere. It might be because of the secondhand purchase, but hopefully Jeremy will sort it out.

Yes I believe so. ZI didnt purchase it, I was able to upgrade.

This was the response I received regarding transfer

"If we delete the base product, the Update wil remain invalid in your account and can't be activated unless you get another qualifying base product registered to your account.

Another option would be to pay the difference from an Update/ Upgrade or Crossgrade to the full version. If you are interested I can forward your request to my colleagues from order support. They will get back at you with information regarding the details of payment.

Exactly as I suspected. If you used a "prior" product (AKA the base product) to upgrade to a later one - those two licenses become one. Transferring the prior away (Base Product) - invalidates your "newer" upgrade and effectively kills it.

You cannot "update" a product to a new version - and then sell the old (base product) and keep using the upgrade. At least not with NI products is my understanding.

I put in a ticket like a week ago for this issue where the serial number is registered with previous owner however I cant contact the person to request a license transfer or SN transfer. Support responded asking me for copy of proof of purchase ie receipt and some pictures from unit of serial number etc. I provided those however as of the 8th not a reply back. I siply hoped to do a 1 for 1 swap. The S3 was also bundled with Traktor pro I assume as it seems like they all do when new.

Have no idea how it would work (or if even possible at all) to sell a historical base product - that was already was tied to a upgrade order/licensing sequence and then try to not only replace it as a base product in your account but then REAPPLY it to that existing transaction as a "upgrade" step - way after the fact.

You can see how this does not sound like something anyone would do - or that NI would consider to be a common occurrence.

This is the critical part - without an actual official license transfer - support may not be able to move forward. And I do not believe they will simply give you a free v3 license either.

Will be interesting to see how it goes - do let us know if NI permits this to happen.
