Library compatibility

Can the creator of the library do it in such a way that it requires Kontakt version 7.10.5 or above (compatible with Windows 10), but will not run in Windows 10 and requires Windows 11? Or (even though they only specify Windows 11), it will actually run in Windows 10 as well.

A given library might require a given version of Kontakt , but as far as I know then it is your OS that determines if a certain version of Kontakt will work on your OS or not and it is not determined by the library. The library depends on Kontakt to be used and Kontakt depends on your OS to run.

Hi PoorFellow. Thanks for the reply. Yeah, that's what makes sense to me, but I don't know for sure. I hoping to get a definitive answer from someone at NI.

I think that N.I. will give you the same answer , that is :

The library depends on Kontakt to be used and Kontakt depends on your OS to run.

Meaning that the library is not OS dependent as such , the library is only in-direct OS dependent in as much as that a library or a library update might require a certain minimum version of Kontakt which in turn requires a minimum OS version. Thus the library itself does not have any direct OS requirement only in-direct. If a library is supported to run on e.g. Kontakt version 7.10.5 then that library should function using Kontakt version 7.10.5 on any OS that Kontakt version 7.10.5 is supported to work on.

The person most expert in Kontakt (Matthew_NI) that sometimes visits the forum is on 'leave' to spend time with his family so you might have to contact N.I. Support (all) to get a 'better answer' than mine.

As others have already noted - the OS and a specific "library" have no relationship.

The only relationship that matters is the version of Kontakt in play.

Kontakt 7 will run on both Win 10 and 11 - makes zero difference. And as long as the version of Kontakt can load the library in question - you are good to go.

Well - I do not see any issues here.

But can Heavyocity really be trusted to know anything about anyOS when they list not just one (Mac OS 11) - but two versions of Mac OS (12) that are now both end of life?

The omission of Windows 10 in the "PC" area means little - as Windows 11 IS Windows 10 - with a fresh coat of paint and nothing much else.

Maybe this specific instrument is the first salvo over there at Heavyocity to acknowledge that Windows 10 is reaching EOL on Oct 14, 2025 . Or maybe a summer student forgot to type "Windows 10" when freshening the "PC" section of this web page.

For what it's worth - I have a half dozen Heavyocity libraries here - ALL modern and running within Kontakt 8.6.1 on Windows 10 22H2. (see my signature)

Actually, you're the only person that's replied. It would be great if someone from Heavyocity and/or NI would give me a definitive answer, but so far nothing. And yes, I did initially contact the company. I even posted this on their product sale announcement on VI Control, but nothing there either.

Well - if I am the only one - I can tell you that as long as your OS (whatever it is) runs Kontakt 7 or 8 just fine - that is all that matters.

Kontakt is the key here - not the OS - especially when Heavyocity lists retirement cases like Mac OS11 and Mac OS12 as being OK.
