Kontrol S-Series MK3 2.0.4 has been released, and Effect slots cannot be automated in Cubase, so it seems there is no use for them. If anyone has found Effect Slots useful, please let me know how you use them.
True, lack of automation is a problem, they are still quite useful for jamming though as you can add them through the browser on the fly
You basically don't because they are kind of useless without both ability to automate and ability to save an FX chain as a template. Almost no one bothers to use the FX slots.
Exactly, The lack of a save function is another issue.
Jamming is fun but FX in KK are not really that useful in any serious production at the moment. 3 things are needed to make it so:
I agree with your opinion Kymeia. I'd like to use NKS2 to control the effects on audio tracks in Cubase.
You can use the improved DAW integration to do that
That's not NKS2, is it?
No it works in a different way but given there is no FX version of Komplete Kontrol it's the closest we can get at the moment and it does work almost as well.
OK, Let me clear my thoughts. My first idea was to remove the Effect Slot from K.K.Software, which would make it run faster. The reason is that using K.K.Software on every track in Cubase (Windows 11) makes the entire software too heavy.
Thanks for your reply Timrae. When you plan a jam session, don't you prepare a set of instruments and effects in advance? I think that to do that, you'd still need a project file saved in your DAW. Now that Kontrol S-Series MK3 2.0.4 has been released, I think that can be substituted with MIDI control.
I don't have Cubase but believe Cubase Remote Controls are the way to go for NKS-like integration using the 2.04 firmware capabilities
If it is possible for people to share these I suggest setting up a shared repository as I have done for NKS and Bitwig Remote Controls as you can quickly build up a good library of mappings that way collaboratively with others who have need of them
I think this is perfect for fx as they tend to be relatively simple and KK has no fx version (yet) - for more complex things like most synths though I prefer to map those in KK/NKS where I can
Thank you your coment Kymeia. I don't have Bitwig, but from what you've said, it's very interesting to me that Bitwig is great for customization. I was so excited when the S-Series MK3 2.0 was released that I converted all my Cubase track presets for all my K.K.Software-based NI plug-ins to Midi Remote-based ones. It was so light and quick, but my joy quickly turned to disappointment. Because I'm a big fan of Reaktor. In Cubase's Midi Control, all Reaktor-based plug-ins (e.g. Razor, Prism, Monark, Super 8) can only be saved as one template, "Reaktor"! So I went back to the extremely slow K.K.Software. And then I understood why K.K.Software manages their instruments on a preset basis. To me, Reaktor is NI.
Bitwig is, but looking at the Cubase manual their remote controls also look powerful and rather deeper (which has pros and cons) - but I am not sure if you can save them in a way that can be shared (tbh I had to work out how to do it with the Bitwig ones as that is kindof hidden away)
