Many great guitar solos have been played, but one of those that will stay with me throughout my life is the electric guitar and steel guitar solos from the Dire Straits song 'You And Your Friends'.

My best favorite is Jeff Beck 'Who Else' and I'm afraid the whole album is brilliant. However, Angel (Footsteps) ta takes some beating. Hard to choose

This has power, melody, technique and harnesses something raw, something spontaneous and 'of the moment' - it essentially captures the very spirit of Jimi. The track actually has a couple of great solo's - the short one at 00:56 - 01:12 has such a cool tone - but the force of nature that is the main solo at 01:46 - 02:53 has it all... I think Hendrix uses all three pick up positions on this and his range here is astonishing - from the the bridge position opening, to the beautiful, psychedelic cigarette lighter slide effects, to the wonderful neck pick up tones where you can hear him pull the strings almost off the Strat - to those classic wah tones and then to the middle position for those end harmony chops... This is a classic and there was only one person who sounded like this...

May favourite guitar solo is "Comfortably Numb" by David Gilmour (Pink Floyd).

'Stairway to Heaven' was a chart-top single for a long stretch and brought Led Zeppelin to the pinnacle of their popularity. Jimmy Page's studio album solo could be considered 'iconic' as truly recognizable if you tuned in mid-song as he brought the 'energy' level to the climax. As videos and audio fidelity from the day are somewhat limiting, I've used a 'live' version where Page extends the jam between 6:19 and 9:06.

It’s pretty hard for me to choose between Jimi Hendrix’s Purple Haze, Eric Clapton’s Crossroads and Jimmy Page’s Stairway to Heaven but since I have to pick one, I’d go for Stairway to Heaven

Oh man there's just plenty to pick from. But I would say for me the best epic guitar solo would have to be Brian May's solo from Queen's Hammer to Fall:

Oh, man i can only imagine what a jolt it would have been to attend that Wembley concert. Epic does not suffice the magnitude of Freddie, Brian, John, and Roger's joint forces into making themselves as one of the greatest Rock band of all time!

    Lynyrd Skynyrd - Free Bird.

A guitar solo that is almost half of this epic 9 minute track. It has to be the most impressive guitar solo's of all time.

    https://youtu.be/D0W1v0kOELA

The solo starts at: 4.56 and runs through to the end of the song.

Your ears will be thankful for it :)

A lot of classics have already been mentioned.

One of my favourites is Jimi Hendrik playing with Hansson & Karlsson in Stockholm. This is however not available online.

So perhaps La Villa Strangiato— Alex Lifeson, Rush

Where would any guitarist worth their licks be without a little masterclass in peak Metallica, circa 1988 live in Seattle? See 5:44

This is such a hard question for me, as there are so many that stay with me for various reasons. But the one that just always amazes me is this Nevermore / Loomis solo:

    Starts at 2:58

Some of my favorites include Guns n Roses - Sweet Child O Mine, Deathklok - Ghostqueen and skyhunter, and Nevermore - The River dragon has come.

    Because it's Prince. Because it's George's. Because it's gorgeous!
