I use Machine+ in standalone mode only, so don't have the Machine 3 software. My question is: Will the forthcoming Machine 3 update for M+ be a free or paid update? If paid update, how much?
I'd really appreciate it if there was some way to have a dual booting M+, where we could boot into Maschine 2 or 3, perhaps by changing out the SD card or something.. Alas, I'm not sure the system architechture would allow it..?
There may not even be room to have effectively two separate OS on the internal storage.
Not an expert… but I dont think it would be as complicated as dual booting… Yocto can do version switching of the SW at runtime, but even if possible, why go to all that trouble? What's the benefit of switching around? Having two SD's, switching them around and managing / keeping track of all that sounds like a nightmare even on a normal computer, let alone in a Standalone.
If development is already slow, something like this would make it even slower…
You can do this with the offline M+ OS installers I think? But IIRC there is something in the upcoming 3.0 which will prevent rolling back to 2.x OS versions..
Why worry about things that don’t even exist yet?!
It all depends how M3 will affect the cpu. If it doesn’t require more, than I prolly will update, but I’ll stick to M2 on my M+ if M3 is glitchy and eats cpu.
they said its gonna come in Q2. i think it may be delayed. im positive that we wont be waiting too long.
Looking for info on this as well… I've been waiting…
So what’s the point of having a standalone?
Well, I do like using a computer – especially in the studio. But on stage, I’ll also have one running Traktor Pro 4, as part of a nice hybrid setup.
I just really want to play my Maschine projects live using the Maschine+. 😊
or you can use M2 and M3 on desktop side by side and base your live stuff in M2 desktop and M+ for now, as the difference between M2 and M3 is mostly functions only available on desktop anyway. The problem isn’t that M3 doesn’t yet exist for M+. The obstacle is really just the one you create yourself. You can perform standalone on M+ and refine your projects on M2 desktop. You CHOOSE to see obstacle and stop yourself from actually do what you want to do. And when M3 for M+ comes you can just migrate your projects from M2 and M+ in 3 clicks. But hey, some people see possibilities others see problems.
I'm with djadidai on this. No, the + isn't compatible with Mashine 3 desktop yet - but that doesn't stop people using Maschine 2 if they need to swap work back and forth.
3 is barely any different to 2 at this stage anyway, so it's not like you're missing out on much by using 2.
It's not "cumbersome" to use 2. We were all doing that anyway, before 3 came along.
Gosh, how did we ever manage?! 🤣
Nevermind. Let's wait… ;-)
Frankly… he even said he is very interested even only in bounce to audio for M+ (which, in facts, would be a good addition, since the limitations of M+ hardware).
Believe me: everything that has been said is well known by anyone here. We know we can use M+ in controller mode. We know we can still use Maschine 2. We know we can use Maschine 3 for certain things and Maschine 2 for others. But… maybe (and I say maybe) someone is a little disturbed by things happening when you use Maschine 3 because you want to use a certain feature but then you can’t open that project anywhere else. Or he is interested in one of the few new feature for his M+ (again: bounce to audio could be useful to avoid the issues we have on our quite expensive but limited device). Or simply, knowing NI, he is worried that, since Maschine 3 has been released, Maschine 2 (and any eventual issue that could arise) will receive answers in the order of “Are you really asking us something about Maschine 2??? It is an old program, EOL, abandoned!!! No support for it!”. And therefore he is hoping to have the new version available on his devices
Why someone asking for infos about how it is proceeding should be such a big case? And he must be accused to be the problem?
Between: yes, some of us did buy a standalone device spending a lot more money to use it… well… standalone… (strange people, are we?). And maybe also using it standalone for producing, not only to play projects previously prepared on a computer. Surely not to use it in the same way the half priced MK3 can be used.
Strange, strange people…
Meanwhile, Tuesday or Thursday are the only viable options for the rollout, which aligns with good practices — avoiding any compromise to users and units over the weekend when there’s no support. OK, maybe I’m being naive, but maybe it’ll happen.
What’s the source?
