Komplete Select installs fine, never ends scan... I cannot use it!

Hi
To make it short, here I am only talking about Stand-alone Komplete Kontrol - actually to be precise Komplete Select.
I already done or tried to do whatever I found useful here on these threads.
I have done this twice - 1st leaving all settings as NI prefers to sett them.
I uninstalled everything twice - totally, the deleted all residuals of NI/NA I could find - I do not have much and did not buy much from NI in years…
Rebooted computer - checked if anything NI was running = nothing.
Re-installed letting NA go on its own with no settings manipulations from me apart from selecting hardware etc. - the basis.
All NI applications work fine and detect all plug-ins fine - i.e Reaktor, Kontakt 6/7/8 - I can play.
Then installed Komplete Kontrol again and we get the usual initial scanning at 'every' running - stand-alone of course!
Pop-up reaches the end of scanning and does nothing - already done that several time even left it for hours just in case NI app was slower than the usual very slow.
Remains stuck.
I hit ESC and waited a few minutes - yes that too sometime is slow.
Did not escape itself, so I had to shut it down via Task Manager.
Run again and hit ESC straight away and after 1 minute or so, it came one - as always happened like this to me.
Then I unticked the Preferences/Plug-ins to avoid initial auto-scan every time.
It came on as expected, started a VST3 only scan and it did it in a bout 5-8 minutes and guess? Stopped at the last plug-in and stuck on it.
I click on any instrument and then click on one of its preset o n right side and it pre-play it normally.
But instrument is not loaded and gives the usual … warning… and to rescan!
I am in a limbo here, again.
I am not exactly a heavy user of NI products really, I only installed Select version as it was free!
The 1st time I re-installed everything, I did leave NA settings original, the 2nd time I set Downloads and VST Contents folder in a different place.
No change.
It does load and list all non-NI plug-in that it actually scanned (!) and this time I also did NOT install any of the plug-in within NA yet - maybe just one or two.
I am stuck - not that that bothers me so much, I only installed it as it was free to me and seeing how it is going, I certainly not see any necessity in buying higher versions of it, even if they offer it at 90% discount - it does not work here.
I spent days on this - not continuously - as I do have a life…
I am now re-installing all I have from NI and Kontinue to use (rarely) Kontakt 6/7/8).
If anybody has anything new to use, please do help.
I installed the latest one, possible came out today (25/05/25)
Ciao and thanks
Aurasic
Note: I had last time KK scanning all VSTs from settings and it did take ages, I could see nearly 9,000 preset scanned - when finished, still did not work - I am mentally tired now! Another Sunday is going with no music done… pff

This is on the Stand-alone KK
SOLVED… after a week of attempts and learning how it works and what it does!
'Clearly' the problem to me has always been the scanner is ';bugged' NO DOUBT about it.
I first renamed the ni-plugin-info.exe (the scanner… really) - so it would open Komplete Kontrol - alrhough the ESC works, but ONLY if you do it straight away!
I kind of forced KK scanner not to work, to see if it fixed itself.
I run scanner and obviously did not run - proof ni-plugin-info.exe 'is' the scanner. Then I renamed it back as it was, set the scanner to VST3 and opened the Task Manager to see it running.
Started scan and they appeared 3 instances of ni-plugin-info.exe.
I let it run up the end of my 157 VST3.
Then I deleted the last of the ni-plugin-info.exe which was stating o - doing nothing, nothing happened bu the two left were playing catch - in terms of running. Then as soon as I deleted the second one, it finished its scan and the list FINALLY appeared for the first time.
Done!
But, I saw 5 or 6 ni-plugin-info.exe instances usually I did stop them a few times, but never let 1-2 only run.
Well it worked.
We can add this tip to the list!
Hopefully helps othersQUESTION:
How do I mark this thread as SOLVED, so it may save a week of hell to others ?
Maybe a moderator can add SOLVED at beginning of title?1 -
Hey we introduced this ni-info exe to address the plugin scanning issues. There were some improvements with 3.4.1 already and some more soon. We identified another plugin scanning issue and a fix is on it's way, that fix should be implemented soon. If you want to report issues please get in touch with our support, some files from you could help in such cases, for us to investigate, reproduce and eventually fix them: https://bit.ly/NI_Support_All

Hello,
how many and what plugins do you have installed? Have you tried to move vst2 plugins to another location temporarily, same with vst3 and add them back in again, like 10 every time and do a scan. Maybe you remember the last scanned plugin where it was hanging, so you could just move that temporarily out of the vst folder.

Hi
Not many.
I have 157 VST3 and I set the scan to only do VST3 and it does it in 3-4 minutes then it reaches 157 - no errors - nothing. Always scans to 157/157
It does not really matter which plug-in is, I believe.
Other times I also had the VST2 selected and they were 237 and always does them all and hangs at the last one - in that case was 237 and not the same plug-in as in the 157 VST3 now.
I just re-tested all Kontatks 6/7/8 Reaktor work fine and are quite fast, apart from some larger plug-in that tends to be about 45s-1m.
In my view KK has a huge problem on how it deals with plug-ins.
If it refers to Kontakt 6/7/8 etc. to 'make plug-in work', why not just read Kontakt's own list? = easier coding less interference.
I am not a coder, but even I can see that is wrong - because if it did that, at least the NI plug-ins would work straight away.
There must be a important basic coding mistake here… must be.
If Kontakt 6/7/8 work and other plug-ins work fine, there must be something seriously wrong in the KK application.

I can also see ni-plugin-info.exe (task manager) still runs and does something
My PC works fine with almost anything, especially since I upgraded CPU to i7 with Hyper-threading - even the DAW has reduced CPU usage by 30% or more0 -
I am going to make some food and eave it running, you never know - it is just such a basic scanner, you do not know what it is doing.
Would be nice to see what it is actually doing - better for fault finding and in NI interest!0 -
It will most likely not make any difference here but have you tried doing the Resetting the Komplete Kontrol Database ?
0 -
That other stuff like kontakt and reaktor work has no impact on komplete kontrol, only kk is looking for vsts and can load them (maschine too) so only here you can have this particular problem with the scan of the vsts.

Yes, did the reset at the beginning. I may retry again as a new re-installation - you never know.
0 -
… well if it only looks for VST, I do not see its problem…

I just re-done the 'reset', opened stand-alone KK and once again it stays at 157/157 - it is 157 as I have KK set to VST3 only for now.
Strangely or maybe obviously there was no komplete.db3 Data_Base file as per other time I did this reset, because it has never made one?
I also noticed 'by chance' there is a C:\Users\****\AppData\Local\Komplete Kontrol folder with cache folders in it… just wondering if it is influent when scanning.
One cache folder has 127 lines… in it…
Soon I am going to leave it alone.
I cannot keep going on.
I have a Support ticket, but I doubt it will come to anything, you never know.
Thanks for trying0 -

Now I got it to work, I see the GUI is a bit… confusing … and it requires too many click to get where you want.
If only one could 'choose' to get the loading of plug-in back as in Kontrol - with a > at top right of Instrument icon, that would have been 90% better… in my humble opinion.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAA, if you double click a preset on the right side it opens whole plug-in - OK!
mmm
Bye then0 -
We have all been saying the same thing, especially if you come from Komplete Kontrol v2 where everything is displayed on a single screen. The lead devs such as @Matthew_NI are convinced this kind of mindset is only old timer users that like to moan about change but honestly, the redesign is terrible and should never have left in the state it is. Will just end up being duct taped and abandoned by the end of it's cycle like V2 was.
The whole NKS eco system was so exciting when it first hit ground, it kind of lost its steam and has never gained that back and I do not blame the majority of plugin developers out there not wanting to waste time investing in it.

Design is kind of 'personal' but, when it comes to GUI for programmes/programs/applications (for the young ones) such as these, interface layout and usability is kind of important.
This one is bad… in my view.
I am no expert and I am certainly not an idiot, but been in IT and Electronics for decades and also done my own websites.
Therefore Ido have a kind of 'organising' mind - this… is disorganised.
I always looked at the user side and mainly usability 'first', then lets make it look nice and pleasant.
The problem I only see here mainly, is that NI do not really listen to us… and that is a mistake many Companies paid hard for.
Yes, I know that too - I have seen Companies going down for that.
I sincerely hope there is someone there that sees this.
I am not a young person, but I am a decade user of Windows mainly + some Apple and I am now back into Linux too.
I can draw technical and artistic, I have a good eye for design and 'functionality'.
But I am just 'only me' and you get ignored by Companies, the larger they are the less they care - that is a fact!
In the end, a Company is driven by their top cream…. the staff is important as long as the cream is 'there' and analyses all the work, not just counting £££$$$€€€ < < < —— this is the main problem in the new Century.
I see it everywhere!
PS I just hope I saved some time to some one out there going insane.1 -
