Kontak 7 slow/crashing in Repear 7 on plugin window close
Hi all,
I'm finding Kontakt 7 is frequently hanging when opening/closing plug-in windows (usually when closing). Most of the time the Reaper resumes after 20s-1 minute, but sometimes it's crashing Reaper completely. I recently upgraded from Windows 10-11, so it could be that, but I think I was having issues before that. Appreciate any help. Using latest version of Reaper (7.38) and latest version of Kontakt 7 (7.10.7).

Are you by any chance using any folders that is synced with cloud drives or network drives , in particular that is also used by your music apps and plugins ?

Thanks for the reply @PoorFellow - I'd managed to find the solution before reading your reply but you're essentially right. I found some mentions of network drives causing similar lag issues on the Reaper forums and here and sure enough, once I unmapped my network drive, the problem's gone. I feel this is a fault of Kontakt so I'll submit a bug report. Thanks again.

UPDATE - I have deduced that issue only occurs when connected to the internet. When I unplug the ethernet cable, I can happily open/close windows with virtually no lag (only the usual delays that I tend to expect with NI plugins - ie: not as snappy as others). I guess I can just work with no internet (perhaps no bad thing!) but would be great if there was a fix.

You are very welcome and thank you very much for the feedback and for sharing the solution.
Yes , alas then network drives has been seen to cause more issues with Kontakt. I am not completely sure that Kontakt is the culprit itself. Though Kontakt might create some problems (not sure about what is what) then it could also at least in part be the victim of some OS functions, but it is definitely something that N.I. needs to look into.

@Jeremy_NI and @Matthew_NI , another one for your notebooks.

Thanks @PoorFellow. I actually can't see an obvious way to report bugs but hopefully your tagging will highlight it.

@Jeremy_NI , reggie would like to have this submitted as a bug.

@reggie @PoorFellow Thanks for the report, but since we do not support/recommend using network drives for installing libraries, as explained here: Notes on Network Drives and Disk Formats, this can't be filed as a bug.

Thank you Jeremy_NI .
I of course knew that , my own personal point here however were that it appears as if sometimes then even the existence and use of network drives on the computer can cause performance issues with Kontakt even if Kontakt and other music programs is not using the drive. As I wrote then :
"I am not completely sure that Kontakt is the culprit itself. Though Kontakt might create some problems (not sure about what is what) then it (Kontakt) could also at least in part be the victim of some OS functions"
However I myself do not have had any reproducible problems only an until now random problem.
I can not see from the answer above if @reggie is actually using the network drive for anything that Kontakt or other music production related programs is actually using but if not then it IMO would warrant that N.I. should look into it.

No libraries on network drives. As @PoorFellow alluded to, the issue happens purely because of the existence of mapped network drives
EDIT: and to clarify the network drives are not referenced by anything Kontakt or DAW related

Ok, sorry for missing that important piece of info. I'm going to contact you by email @reggie, get some support files and forward all this info to the Kontakt team. I have to mention that Kontakt 7 is no longer developed so there won't be any bugfixes. Are you able to reproduce the issue with Kontakt 8?

Thanks. Same issue in Kontakt 8 (player).
