You can also write to NI Support and explain the situation.

If you prove them the device is in your hands now, they can remove the license from the seller’s account and make it available for you.

In any case, the device can be used without registering it. Registration is only for having the Maschine software (and some other). But if you don’t own Maschine software already (DON’T buy Maschine 3: as PK underlined is not working with your MK1), Mikro can be used only as a general purpose midi controller. Its strengths are in using it with Maschine software

There’s a couple of steps to do: you must install its driver anyway (you can find it in NI website at this link) and you must install Controller Editor, the program to set up what the Mikro will send (if you want to change the original template).

At this point you can switch Mikro to midi mode (SHIFT + F1) and it can be used by any program receiving midi messages.

But… don’t give up on obtaining your Maschine software… Write to support and they will help you

You need to explain to the seller that they will not lose their software when they give you the license number. This is probably why some are reluctant, because they think they will lose the software.

If all else fails, you can buy Maschine 3 yourself (assuming the Mikro is MK3).
