Well - if NI does own the IP outright - only two things are possible - they either have no one on staff that could understand what to do with it or the private equity gang at the controls sees no point in investing one more dime in this.

I still think (regardless of where the code is) - there are contractual barriers on the books that locked this down permanently. NI cannot do anything with it without Brian C and vice versa.

And if there was this fantasy "money pot" of a market for this thing - no company in their right mind would just ignore that potential to cash in.

I agree with your assessment - the actual market for this thing is probably more like about 1422 users - which is about 50000 shy to make any further work - worth any additional effort.

I don’t read it as people being juvenile.

I do understand releasing it isn’t as simple as some might think but I also understand their desire to see it updated.

To me, people wanting to see a modern updated version shows credit to what NI has achieved, and credit to how good Absynth is.

Would NI see any sort of good return if they updated it, who knows. It could end up with only a few nostalgic buyers, or it could end up being named the number one must have VST synth of the year.

Should they release the code for free? Well if they have no intention of ever updating it, then sure, that would be a nice thing to do, but I suspect it’s impossible for all sorts of reasons.

Maybe (just a suggestion as I lay in bed half asleep and not thinking clearly) there could be some sort of agreement in the future where NI still own it, but let a select 3rd party group of people update it, people prepared to work in their spare time for the love of Absynth, with some sort of financial reward for any stand alone versions sold etc. Again not really thinking this through, just an idea that popped into my head.

Guys, in case you didn't noticed, we are doing circles here… as on an eternal loop.

So please, before you comment the same and the same things all over, read all the previous comments before write something that has been already answered few pages before.

For example: this "release the code for free" has been already discussed and answered 2 or 3 times why it is not going to be happened, ever.

The the entitlement and assumptions people are jumping to seem juvenile, to me. It's like we're in a 6th grade classroom with kids behaving as if Native Instruments owes them something; and are obliged to deliver it to them.

This is a very unfair statement. I don't think anybody here is "demanding" anything. We're just expressing a desire to have a favorite instrument refreshed and modernized.
