Ideally "easy and simple" should apply to everything up to the point you start actually creating music tho? If you have inspiration to create something the last thing you want is to have to spend time selecting audio and other tech stuff. As soon as you have to do something that you find annoying your mood changes and you're likely to lose the moment.

That is true only if you constantly change devices…

But normally, you get your devices once, you get your apps, spend 2-3 days to fix your studio correctly and then… you have all the time of the world to make music, without been distracted.

And then, any new device you add, you must dedicate some time to smoothly integrate it in your setup.

You can not avoid this process…. 😉

"the last thing you want is to have to spend time selecting audio and other tech stuff."

You only do that once…. Then, every time, your setup is there, ready to play!

In Traktor, for example, i always have my Z1 ASIO there, ready and selected…. There is no need to change it every week or month… Even if i add a new audio device, my selected Z1 is always there… pre-checked. I don't have to do anything at all.

The device has to be connected and on a few seconds befor you turn on traktor, else traktor gets confused.

Very correct (and very logical). Yet it seems that many users do the opposite… 🙄

    Same as Studio One here.

If my RME is not on and ready to go when I launch S1 - chaos ensues.

Jesus man, what is this bitter old guy gatekeeper ******?!? I started with like BASIC and a C64 and 8088s in the 80s yet I'm extremely happy with how things get easier every year and the barrier to entry is lowered.

I'm only more into DAWs and DJing because it's not hard anymore like micing amps and recording to tape and spinning vinyl was, but it's easier and easier.

Why should your average DJ know anything about device drivers and such? You like a fine car or a suit, but wouldn't know how to make one. Let people enjoy accessibility. Those who want to dig deeper, will inevitably still do so. Sheesh...

"Why should your average DJ know anything about device drivers and such? "

The better question for this entire thread is:

"Why should your average DJ even worry about device drivers (and how they are displayed) and such?"

Can't the average DJ just select their device (from a list) and carry on?

Apologies - but that first post sounds less like a real issue and more like the OP can't be bothered to navigate his driver filled PC - because there is too much "irrelevant stuff" in the way and claiming that Traktor is not capable of dumbing it down enough.

This is a driver housekeeping issue - not really a Traktor problem.

If you want a very clean (very easy to select from) list - consider cleaning up your PC. Several known good solutions have been posted but the OP seems resistant to this idea, so it is what it is.

Sure, he can. Problem it that he often has to choose from 20+ of them.

And yes, some of them user can uninstall, but some of them may be used by other programs for other tasks than for Traktor. And even for Traktor one may use several of them, depending on situation.

So, some sort of order arrangement or prefered ones or blacklisted ones would be cool.

Some decent housecleaning will get that list down to 5 or less.

The solution is known good. The real issue here is wanting to address it.

Well, I actively use 13 drivers on my computer, but not all of them for Traktor. And I have uninstalled all drivers that come with Traktor and I do not use….. Not doing that, Traktor would show ten or so more.

So, without housekeeping after each Traktor installation, I would have almost 25 drivers to choose from…. :-(
