is there a process in setting up where to save sample files and should the files be saved on a external hard drive instead of the Mac hardwire?

in the maschine sw settings goto / library/ user

There’s paths there to the maschine 3 folder which is in the NI folder , this holds the project , groups , sound, samples , recordings, folders

Another path is to the user folder in the native instruments folder , for user preset of vst that can be used by maschine and kk

These are on your main hdd by default

You can change these , by clicking on them and adding a new path ( copy ni folder to external drive and point both paths to it and the maschine folder)

you can also add new paths , by clicking add , for 3rd party samples

yeah , as long as you move the current maschine folder to an external and point maschine too it , it will work without any issues

I save to my internal drive atm , I’ve saved to external ,but I’ve got enough room on my internal atm , all my libraries/ plugin presets are on an external ,

I also like to use the “save with samples” save , for projects and groups/sounds so everything stays together

nah I didn’t path them. For some reason my chop samples I create don’t follow the external hd. Normally if I download a sample from YouTube and drag the file from Apple Music player, then chop it, it seems like the original download file stays in Apple Music or something. All I know is, if I save all files with samples as a project and path it to save in the external HD, then use that external HD in another computer, it does not find those samples. If I go back to the original computer with the external HD it works fine. I thought by saving all my projects to the external HD would work anyplace I use it, but I am wrong, it’s not working that way. Instead it’s saving those samples independently in the fist computer. SMH…

I’ll have a look some more tomorrow

Recordings by default are saved to the recording folder , but as soon as you save with samples , a copy is saved there too

If you open a project and save with samples straight away , the recording gets saved to the (save with samples folder) and not the recording folder

    But it should work

    thank you very much!
So all my chops and samples that are saved for a project, should be in the same location. My MAC. HD is running out of space, hence the ask to relocate them to an external hard drive. May I ask, where da you save all your files internal or external HD?

thank you very much for your replies and knowledge, you kinda lost me with the term internal drive atm. ATM meaning network or something else? I am about to get a new computer, so I want to set it up properly with using maschine music creation. I think I got what you’re saying, in the past I’ve saved the project with samples to the external HD, problem with that is everything does not end up on the external HD. I was thinking I could take my external hd and use it as a plug and play when plugging into any computer that has maschine 3.0 and open the projects, But I get an error as if those samples did not exist on the external HD. It appears the samples stayed on that old computer. Does that make sense?

internal drive , the one inside my Mac ( built in)

Yeah that makes sense, because probably some of your samples are from the maschine library, or samples from expansions etc , they will be installed in the shared folder on your computer by native access , those samples stay in that location when you save a project and maschine will know where they are (point to that location)

If you use the - save with samples - option when saving a project , all the samples in your project will be saved to a folder in the project folder, alongside the project file , this does mean you will start to duplicate stuff , but it does keep things more organised and makes it easier/ possible to take your external drive with the maschine folder elsewhere

sorry I misread , you were saying you did use the save with samples option but you still had samples missing , maybe that’s a licensing thing , maybe they’ve stopped allowing copyrighted samples to be saved ,

I’ll have to test that out see what happens , it used to save any sample to a folder , unless you have the box checked , for delete unused samples , then it would obviously only save , ones that were being used

when you were taking those samples elsewhere, where they in the maschine folder ? Were they user samples ?

And did you add a path to them in maschine , and rescan on the other computer,

did Maschine ask to locate , and you couldn’t find them
