Gf and me are watching Superbowl LIX right now (= time of writing!) and during the anthem we were once again heavily impressed with the amazing atmosphere, even the US president is in attendence.

Then all of a sudden… wait a sec! … IS THAT?!!

During the commercial break I paused, played back… made a snapshot. See above, this is SO COOl!

Now, if you'll excuse me… kickoff!

Well…rewatching the performance… It’s one of those cases where they put a couple of gears to make scenography…

He could have used an MP3 player from 1998 and it would have been the same 😂😂😂

If I recall correctly someone in the last years used a Maschine during pregame show…and he REALLY used it 😂

It's powered on, there's just no sounds loaded into any of the groups. You can see the little '+' at the beginning of pad 1's device chain, indicating that he has not yet added any sounds to it.

Yes it's definitely turned on. You can see text on the left screen, and at least two pads are a slightly different colour. It's often the case where people claim something's not on because the bright light makes it hard to see the LEDs/screens.

I can also make out a couple of white cables. Power and MIDI out, going by another shot posted here. Can't see any audio cables though, so just using it as a sequencer.

"Scenography"…that's a new word to me, but I love it, and I think you're probably right. All that gear was "staged" for the performance. Whether or not it was actually PLAYED for the performance…that's probably another matter entirely. I have not yet watched or heard the performance, but probably will do so before the day is over.

But yeah, an MP3 player always seems to be a better (more reliable) choice to play backing tracks during a live performance. Even standalone beatboxes and synths can fail.

As PK said, the cables are there (white, power and midi, that’s why I said “to control external gears via midI”).

It could be that they are just clever and thought “let’s not make the usual epic fail of guitarist not plugged into anything and let’s at least put the cables…”

But…

What made me say what I said in my second comment was that “pushing the 4th pad” without audio cables plugged… but now…rethinking about it… it could also all be legit: if he is in Scene mode and scenes are set to retrigger… pushing a pad could make a midi sequence start, couldn’t it?

And when watching live from television, I clearly heard the drum rolls starting before the pad and didn’t hear those synths notes starting exactly with the pad pushing (which now I can hear in the YouTube video).

So…maybe he REALLY made a midi sequence start and he is not faking it.

Maybe he is faking the piano playing and also this is managed by Maschine+…😂😂😏😂😂
