I actually like having the synth presets. It expands your collection and because it's not sample based, allows more scope for modifying the sound or pattern.

These presets not being converted by e.g. Kit Maker is a limitation of the software. Ideally it would copy the pattern, even if it can't replicate the sound patch. NI don't need to avoid it because 3rd party software ignores it.

@MLARS so we more or less completely disagree on what we like to use. I hardly use any dedicated software synths except for those provided on the Maschine+. Instead, I prefer to use integrated hardware synths or emulations of those. A basic subtractive analog mono synth can still deliver sounds which I've never used before. And I find sonic inspiration in Maschine Expansions by exploring the synth presets and rather weird one-shot samples.

They could sample them for the kits (have sample only kit version) and include them as presets, best of both worlds.

Probably lots of misunderstanding what I prefer. Some examples, I like using my Push 3 Ableton DAW synths, my Arturia synths and NI Expansions sounds so it varies (but less NI synths overall these days). There are many use cases and preferences how to make music and what gives inspiration. But overall, for me, if an instrument feels old and not modern (but sound could still be retro) I just might be less inclined to use it.

As the situation is now, I would even be happy simply knowing that they will not find a way to “remove” those old synths from our ability to use them.

I’m not one of those guys needing EVERYTHING to be renewed/updated/modernized. When a product is good, it is good. If I was happy with the sounds it can produce years ago, I’m happy even now. Asking for it to be constantly updated has no sense for me. Specially because I find correct that they should ask a price for the work done. At this point, I prefer to still have my old synth as it is (and as I’m always have been happy with) and spend that money to buy a new, more modern synth. So I will have my old synth AND a new modern one.

But I do am one of those guy that thinks “even if you don’t update it, don’t think that since it’s “old” it is a good reason to remove it and even block us from installing it”. (That, I would even dare to say, could even be seen as unfair).

If a product is good because you have done with it what you should have done, just let it live his life.

It’s like human beings parable: your parents give you life, grow you, teach you things and how to live your life. But once you are a “completed” adult, they let you live. They don’t kill you to make another “more modern” son

If i already own the expansions and play series, do I need to repurchase them for the MPC?

My first thought was that the machine + would be replaced by AKAI. I thought for a long time to buy a machine plus but wanted to wait for a new version probably I'm best to buy an AKAI now. Or is a new version of the machine plus in sight?

Maschine + does seem underpowered and they did discount it heavily in BF and Dec 24 sales compared to the high 1200usd+ intro price a few years ago.

Still there is potential with it, but a Maschine+ mk2 with more storage, MPE & midi 2.0, more computing power akin to a push3 (and a better integration for Maschine software as a whole with the likes of Ableton - think how seamless Ableton Move/Note/Push3/Live is in comparison) could be a serious contender.

    Just saying…

There's nothing in the NI rumour mill at the moment for Maschine hardware, just software updates that have been mentioned elsewhere.

Yes I am aware of that and Matthew said before NAMM there were no imminent product announcements, so this is just wishful thinking.

If someone did release an MPE keyboard controller a la osmose in terms of playability but for under 1000/800euro, they would make a killing (maybe expressive E will, but Arturia, Novation, Native Instruments or possibly Akai, why not Behringer, have surely considered something like that).
apart from my Push3 (and maybe the EraeTouch), there is no real competition to the Osmose in terms of playability and for those who come from a piano/keyboard background, there is a big gap/opportunity in the market)

So Osmose like MPE playability + NKS 2.0 compatibility would be a winner (poly AT on the Kontrol Mk3 is already great of course but it leaves one longing for more once you get a taste of MPE)

I've just ordered one of these - not an Osmose but for just over £300 it seemed worth giving it a go:

is that MPE hardware? I thought it was just poly aftertouch

It does more than just poly AT as it has poly pitchbend too and says ‘MPE ready’ which I took to mean it supports it if the software does
